Police: Guy fleeing cops in car hits one, then crashes on 93

Boston Police report an officer investigating a domestic disturbance on Julian Street in Dorchester yesterday wound up rolling off the hood of a man's car when the guy accelerated and sped away.

Police described the 3 p.m. incident, which ended following a foot chase after the guy crashed his car on I-93 just after getting on at Mass. Ave. - and which came just two days after four officers were injured in a similar incident on Stoughton Street in Dorchester:

On arrival, officers observed the suspect, a 30 year old male from Lawrence, in the driver’s seat of a parked motor vehicle speaking to the female victim who was standing next to the car. As the officers walked up to speak to both parties, the suspect suddenly put the vehicle in gear and accelerated, striking one of the officers who was approaching the front of the car. The officer quickly braced himself as the car struck him and was able to roll off of the hood. The suspect then struck a parked car before continuing to flee the scene at a high rate of speed. Both officers returned to their cruiser, and followed the suspect while updating additional units. The officers soon lost sight of the vehicle but were aware that the suspect might attempt to utilize the highway to return home. Responding units canvassed the area and located the suspect after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed while travelling on 93 Northbound near Exit 16. The suspect fled on foot but was taken into custody after a brief pursuit.

The officer was treated and released at a local hospital following the arrest, police say.

Police say the Lawrence man, whom they did not identify, will be arraigned Monday in Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury, leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage and operating a motor vehicle after revocation or suspension.

Police say the man also turned out to be wanted for several outstanding warrants.
