Owner of Mission Hill hardware store shot and killed there

WCVB reports the owner of AC Hardware, 1562 Tremont St., was shot during a robbery attempt around 4 p.m. Three men were arrested at Cedar and Lambert streets in Roxbury - two of them with injuries from the encounter serious enough to put them in the hospital.

Last month, Mission Hill Main Streets had named AC Hardware - named for owner Andres Cruz, 58 - its 2017 Business of the Year.

Volare writes:

I can't handle this. Andres was always kind to me whenever I hit up AC for the last minute project stuff I needed. I'm gutted.

Stephen Morrissey writes:

He always had what I thought I needed, which cost $10, and what he told me I needed, which cost $1.50. A thoughtful, generous man.

Boston Police have identified the suspects as Christian Soto-Olivero, 21, of Mattapan, Jerome Hobson of Dorchester, 38 and Shawn Redden, 26, of Brockton.

Responding officers were able to provide a description of a possible suspect vehicle that had since left the area. Additional officers on patrol observed a vehicle matching that description traveling on Cedar Street toward Washington Street. Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but a brief pursuit ensued. The three occupants finally stopped the car and fled on foot from the vehicle in the area of Cedar Street and Lambert Avenue. Officers chased the suspects on foot and quickly apprehended all three individuals.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports:

At least one suspect is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in West Roxbury Municipal Court; one or both of the others may be arraigned at Brigham & Women's Hospital and/or Boston Medical Center, where they were separately transported for injuries they apparently sustained in the course of the fatal encounter.

In a statement, Police Commissioner William Evans said:

This was brazen daytime shooting of a good, well-respected man doing the right thing. Thanks to a quick response by my officers, we believe we have the three cowards responsible for this homicide in custody.

I remember when he and I

I remember when he and I think his brother or cousin started the store, taking over from MArvin who was down the street where the Indian store was. And he always had everything.

Pray for the victim's family! It is only a matter of time before the young guns kill more innocent victims and our politicians vow to get tough on crime but not criminals.

Let's see these coward's faces...

By on

Let's see these coward's faces, and not only during their arraignment. Let's see one of the papers actually put their mugs on the front page. If we want to deter violent crime, we need to start shaming these people publically. And let's post their records. Marty took plenty of time condeming the guns on our street today. But let's also look at their records, most likey for previous gun charges. The BPD can take these punks off the street, but when the courts give them a slap on the wrist for ILLEGAL GUN POSSESSION while commiting violent crimes, all the good police work is for nothing.

Need more proof that the system is broken? Take a look at the records of those punks who kidnapedd that women in Hyde Park a few weeks back. Or the scum Alemany who killed Amy Lord. All repeat violent offenders - left to walk among us.

It's not just the guns Marty, it's the criminals, and piss poor judges who don't live here and dont care.

Sorry Adam, just worked up.

Heartbreaking

By on

I've been stopping by his store for almost as long as I've lived in Boston. If you needed something quickly, he somehow managed to have it in stock, even though his store was barely bigger than my bedroom. I don't think we own a house key for any of our 4 units that wasn't cut by him. We weren't friends, per se. But we were neighbors and he was a great neighbor. As glad as I am that they caught the murderers, nothing will bring him back. They robbed the neighborhood of one of its best people.
