Two arrested at Forest Hills T stop after guy's gun popped out of his waistband, police say

Transit Police report arresting two Mattapan residents after an incident at the Forest Hills T station on Friday.

Police say officers monitoring the after-school rush at the station around 2:30 p.m. spotted a guy "exhibiting signs of a person who potentially was carrying a firearm."

Police say that when James Chin, 22, noticed the cops noticing him, he fled:

In doing so a fully loaded .380 caliber firearm he was illegally carrying dislodged from his waistband and landed in the middle of the [lower] bus way.

Then Chin's pal, Nina Vidal, 18, ran over to the gun and picked it up:

Officers quickly converged and shouted verbal commands for Vidal to drop the weapon. Vidal ultimately complied and was placed into custody. After a foot pursuit officers also apprehended Chin and he also was placed into custody.

Both were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Waistband holstering is a great way to ensure that your genes are not passed on, be it by hitting a femoral artery or shooting your junk.

And the kids kept yelling at TPD, calling them racist & that they were profiling. I was ready to smack them. Pull your goddamn pants up, take your hands out of you XXL sweatshirt pockets, pull your hood down, & dress like a respectable human.... then maybe the "profiling" will stop.

Doesn't sound like profiling if all the cop did was look at him before he started running and dropped the gun, at which point no profile was needed to know there was something going on.

Racist? Because his unregistered gun fell out of his waistband and onto to floor of one of the busiest train stations in Boston? I commend the officers for preventing God knows what he was planning on doing with that gun! Are these the same race-card claiming youngsters who were protesting the mass shootings recently on the Common? Excellent job, law enforcement! I appreciate what you all do and sympathize with the shit you all have to put up with every day. I have an arrest record from something stupid I did when I was younger. Years later, at 52 and a hell of a lot wiser, I thank the very same police officer who arrested me for changing my life resulting in my success financially and spiritually.

Fixed it:

And the kids kept yelling at TPD, calling them racist & that they were profiling. I was ready to smack them. Don't carry a loaded weapon and drop it in front of the police.... then maybe the "profiling" will stop.

This could be important, but criticizing people's dress for not being "like a respectable human" destroys the credibility of your report.

Hey while your profiling teens in baggy shirts and teaching them your idea of a respectable human being, could you give some of those pointers to racist soon to be X boston police who have been convicted of felony's ? Steve

I wonder if the police report was supposed to read "Jimmy the Chin", not James Chin.

And that Lorcin is the worst semi-auto handgun ever made. If I was a cop and knew the kid had that gun, I would have treated him as if he was a mental case with a bomb.. talking all soft like, like he was a cat or something. Guns do not go off on their own but that one comes closest. The bullshit drop test Massachusetts has makes a bit of sense due to its existence.

Gunsplaining? Just what word in that whole post is above third grade comprehension?

If it is drop test, then blame the AG for making it up, not the gun crowd. That would be AGsplaining. A drop test is where a loaded gun with a chambered round is dropped cocked from a height of three feet in six different planes of axis. If the gun fires, the gun is banned in MA. If the company does not subject the gun to the test, the gun is banned in MA. Stigma from a drop test failure can follow the gun model state to state in a legal sense.

Your first comment says this is a "bullshit" test but your second one implies that if a gun discharges on being dropped, it's banned and this can cause complications in other states... implying that at least one gun has failed this test and thus been banned... which implies that there are guns out there that WILL discharge, upon being dropped, and are sold like that regardless .... so how is the test bullshit? Seems like a perfectly reasonable way to cut down on bystanders getting shot or hurt by accidental discharge when idiots act like idiots. If a gun gets dropped and will possibly SHOOT someone, and the producer is going to let it out on the streets in that defective state, it's well within MA's right to regulate it.

The level of industry irresponsibility is unreal. Fucking SAMSUNG does extensive drop testing internally because they don't want to sell products that people may break when it gets dropped and makes improvements, and those are PHONES - the only harm that could happen is to your facebook reach.
