By adamg on Tue, 08/21/2012 - 6:55pm
Stanley Staco reports a chase in the area of Dartmouth Street on the South End side of Back Bay station ended with two police officers injured - and the man they were chasing shot dead, shortly before 6 p.m.
The Herald reports the chase started with a traffic stop and that the man pulled a gun on pursuing officers on Yarmouth Place.
Peter Howe at NECN reports police say the man was shot once in the chest after he brandished a gun.

So that's what happened
I was sitting outside the station on the Clarendon side when a cop came tearing around the corner on foot. Ran to two MBTA cops standing at the door and they went running off to the Dartmouth side. Then the sirens started, and that's when I decided it would probably be in my best interest to go downstairs and hope the Needham train was on time...
Was there about 20 mins ago…
I had gotten off the 502 bus when I saw cops - uniformed, plainclothes, motorcycle - zooming up and down Dartmouth.
On an unrelated note, there were police at BBY, with one grandfatherly type holding a little girl. I thought she was lost; when I tapped my pass, there were four more police surrounding the mother - in handcuffs, pleading her case.
BPD still had Dartmouth St.
BPD still had Dartmouth St. blocked off from Stuart at about 7:30.
Gosh, you have to wonder how much worse this could have gotten if the guy ran into BBY.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !
DON'T TALK ABOUT IT! Thugs getting shot and killed outside Back Bay Station are bad for business, tourism and real estate!! This story needs to just go away!
