Liz reports on a recent visit by a group of brunching bloggers to Brookline's very own recipe central.

Since moving to Boston I've watched hundreds of ATK and Cook's Country tv episodes and Cook's Illustrated Cookbook is my go-to guide in the kitchen. So you can understand how I felt like a 10 year-old waiting for the end-of-the-year awesome field trip.

Out names dbar as one of the 60 greatest gay bars in the world:

This gay friendly restaurant bar serves eclectic, to-die-for food, but the mellow and welcoming ambiance set by color-changing lights, music, and nouveau decor makes for an all around great evening. The only peeve is the lack of a maitre d' -- you’ll have to seat yourself -- and the oh-so-few male waiters.

It was the only Boston bar to make the cut.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday approved a request from Greek International Foods on Washington Street in West Roxbury for a license to sell beer and wine. However, the board rejected a request from Louis, the upscale clothing store on the waterfront, to nestle a full-service liquor store among its suits.

The board took no action on a request from Sugar in Roslindale to offer beer and wine with meals because it currently has no restaurant beer and wine licenses left. The vote means Sugar can re-apply again in the hopes a license becomes available or it can try to buy somebody else's license.

What now, you ask? The Globe reports some people are upset about a proposed beer and wine emporium right down the street from the Curley School. Yes, just like City Feed, only without all those soul-satisfying organic sandwiches.

The proposed store's owner says he's well prepared to stop third graders from buying malt beverages.

Meanwhile, next door in Roslindale, nobody has yet objected to Sugar's request to serve beer and wine right around the corner from the Sumner.

Becky reviews local restaurants with gluten-free menus, most recently Bella Luna in Jamaica Plain, whose pizza she found OK, but not really worth the trip from downtown, especially since the cook refused to let her have the soy cheese:

Do you really trust a place that thinks all things soy aren't gluten free just because soy sauce is made with wheat? I certainly don't.

The Greek International Food Market at Washington and Grove streets in West Roxbury goes before the Boston Licensing Board next Wednesday to request a license to sell beer and wine. It's across the street from Dedham Line Liquors.

Also going before the board next week: Sugar in Roslindale, seeking a license to sell beer and wine with its food.

Potentially at issue for both places: Whether the board has any licenses to dole out. The number of liquor licenses in Boston is limited by the state legislature; over the past two years, the board has denied a number of license requests because none were available at the time.
