A North End diner who didn't think the free meal he got in exchange for a restaurant's mistake was good enough got the place hauled before the Boston Licensing Board today - even though he's now refusing to cooperate with the board or police.

Trattoria di Monica, 67 Prince St., had to explain an incident on Sept. 4, for which they received a police citation for "assault and battery, employee on patron."

The Globe reports the store where the Hi-Lo used to be opened today instead of its announced Wednesday date.

That didn't fool Whose Foods, though. Patty Neal tweets:

The 20-something protestors at WF have a drum circle! The customers are shouting at them "We love Whole Foods!"

Cissy Huang tries the haggis at the Haven in Jamaica Plain:

Maybe it was the beer or maybe it was the learning curve, but I found myself gaining appreciation for this dark hash and its iron flavor. However, I don’t think it’s something that I would care to eat again.

Virgil Aiello said today DeLuca's on Charles Street could be back in the wine business within a month after receiving Inspectional Services approval - which his lawyer said could be any day now.

Aiello and attorney Terry Dangel told the Boston Licensing Board that renovations to the market - destroyed in a four-alarm fire in July, 2010 - are proceeding apace, even as Aiello continues lawsuits against Nstar for the basement short circuit blamed for the fire.

State Treasurer Steve Grossman had some Schweddy Balls today and tweets about the experience:

Latest flavor gets a 5/10. Too much vanilla. Not enough malted milk balls.

You may recall that Grossman made trips to ice-cream places a part of his successful election campaign last year.

The Globe reports that not only do many restaurants around here not serve you the fish they claim they do on their menus, they seem to think that's just fine.

All 23 white tuna samples tested as some other type of fish, usually escolar, which is nicknamed the "ex-lax" fish by some in the industry because of the digestion problems it can cause.

News that Stop & Shop doesn't want to touch Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls is apparently spurring a mini-frenzy among the local Twitterati desperate for fudge-covered rum balls. So here's a (no doubt far from complete) list of local emporia where you can get your hands on some Schweddy Balls:

UPDATE: Post has been taken down. Pretend you never saw this.

Way better than even at Ali's Roti in Mattapan, Boston Guru reports. But Underground Roti is only open for lunch just two days a week, in a shed behind somebody's house on a Jamaica Plain side street, so he's not giving out the address, because, well, you know. But he says he'll e-mail it to you.

A mobile food festival originally planned for this Saturday has been postponed until at least this spring, the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy announced today:

The decision is based on the fact the attendees we're anticipating for the Greenway Mobile Food Fest, when combined with the Occupy Boston encampment on Dewey Square, would simply be too crowded to be considered safe for the public.

South End Patch notes a proposed Dunkin' Donuts on Tremont Street (which would replace, gasp, a "modern furniture store") is "less than half a mile" from an existing Dunkin' Donuts.

Farmers to You, which hooks up Vermont farmers with Boston-area consumers, reports it is very close to setting up a delivery site in JP (what? Oh, you thought I was talking about that other place):
