The Boston Fire Department reports an unattended candle started a fire around 4:40 a.m. at 125 Fairmont St. The fire did an estimated $40,000 damage and displaced two people, but there were no injuries.

The Herald reports on today's arraignment of Daquan Sparks, 19, on a charge of assault with intent to murder for his alleged role in a stabbing attack on the mother of one of his babies by the mother of one of his other babies.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today a Boston police officer should not have searched the glove compartment of a car he had stopped in Dorchester because he failed to provide evidence he needed to search the car immediately to protect either his own or the public's safety.

The ruling upholds the decision of a Boston Municipal Court judge to disallow the gun and ammunition, which might make it tough for prosecutors to continue charging the couple in the car with illegal possession of a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number and illegal possession of a large capacity feeding device.

Boston Police report arresting Daquan Sparks, 19, on charges he helped his girlfriend repeatedly stab his ex-girlfriend Monday afternoon on Bay Street. Sparks was picked up in Quincy, police say.

Vargas and Vargas Insurance will spring for a free ice-cream cone for anybody who shows up at Savin Scoop, 107 Savin Hill Ave. between 1 and 2:30 p.m. today.

The agency says it's doing this as "a random act of kindness" following Sunday's stabbing, as well as part of the neighborhood "cash mob" program, in which resident flood a particular business and buy its stuff.

Boston Police report arresting Samia Jones, 17, on charges she repeatedly stabbed her boyfriend's ex as she walked down a Savin Hill street with her infant yesterday afternoon.

In a roughly 30-minute span this evening, police responded to a home invasion on Talbot near Dot. Ave. a car crash at Washington Street and then a foot chase onto Whitfield Street.

Residents of 514 Talbot Ave. told police three men with guns burst into the small apartment building shortly after 9 p.m., apparently looking for somebody. One wore a scully cap, another a skeleton mask - which police recovered.

Somebody was stabbed shortly after 4 p.m. on Midland Street, then collapsed at Savin Hill Avenue and Sidney Street, down the block from the T stop. A mini-van wanted in connection with the investigation was stopped about 10 minutes later at Linden and Freeport streets.

UPDATE: The Herald reports the victim was a mother pushing a stroller.

Somebody was shot around 11:40 a.m. on Dacia Street near Quincy Street. Because of the severity of his injuries, the homicide unit was called in, just in case he dies.

BeverlyTikee Beverly, a convicted bank robber already charged with raping two women in Egleston Square in February, was indicted yesterday for two additional rapes and an attack in Dorchester and Roxbury, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Beverly now faces a total of 13 charges related to the five case, the DA's office says: four counts each of rape and aggravated rape, two counts each of robbery and kidnapping, and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.

The indictment charges him with attacking women on Sept. 13 on Shirley Street, Dorchester, Dec. 27 on Kenilworth Street in Roxbury and Jan. 11 on Arcadia Park in Dorchester.

Boston Police report a 52-year-old man riding a scooter on Blue Hill Avenue at McLellan Street died after a collision with a Ford Explorer around 9:20 p.m., Tuesday.

Firefighters are on Fox Street battling a fire that broke out around 6:45 p.m. at 8 Fox St., but which quickly spread to several neighboring buildings on Fox and Juliette Street.

Fire commanders declared a sixth alarm at 7 p.m. and issued a request for four additional ladder companies. The bulk of the fire was declared out shortly after 7:25 p.m.

A man who showed up at Boston Medical Center with a gunshot wound shortly after 7 a.m. said he'd been shot on Bicknell Street. Officers responding to the street not long after found a blood trail.
