Theo Jansen's Strandbeests - Wallace & Gromit's World of Invention Episode 1 Preview - BBC One

Boston Magazine reports the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem is bringing Dutch artist Theo Jansen's "strandbeests" (beach animals) to the Boston area - with one-day exhibitions of them at various locations, including City Hall Plaza and Dewey Square, next month.

The T says it's busing passengers between Bowdoin and Airport - except Bowdoin riders are supposed to catch the bus at Government Center - due to a bomb threat that shut Maverick station around 5:30 p.m.

Update: Around 6:48 p.m., Transit Police completed their sweep of the station and re-opened it for service.

Between 1954 and 1959, urban planner Kevin Lynch took hundreds of photos in Boston and Cambridge to help show how residents build up a sort of mental map of what their city is like. The MIT Libraries have posted 1,900 of his photos. Read more.

Craig Wright reports on an incident on the inbound platform on the Red Line at South Station around 9 a.m.:

Woman hit older woman with iced coffee, then dumped on her head because she was "intentionally blocking her."

I guess from boarding the train? Who knows! To the older woman's credit - she just pretty much laughed it off.

The coffee dumper then walked away, he said.

Today's the anniversary of Kevin White's 1972 call to police in Warwick, RI to convince them to release the Stones - who'd been arrested for a scuffle the night before - or there'd be a riot at the Garden, where 15,000 fans were waiting for them.
