Storrow Drive's second fatal motorcycle crash in less than two weeks happened around 2:50 p.m. yesterday when a 35-year-old man from Brighton apparently lost control of his bike on the inbound side near the Bowker Overpass, striking a curb and then a pole, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

On Sept. 22, a Wakefield man died when he struck a Jersey barrier near the Longfellow Bridge.

While the fatalities yesterday and last month are still investigation, the evidence does not presently suggest that either one involved a second vehicle.

City and state officials today announced a series of traffic-improvement steps to keep the burgeoning Innovation District from choking on its own success, ranging from the mundane - better lane markers on the Moakley Bridge - to a new ferry service between East Boston and South Boston, scheduled to start sometime next year.

The city will use a $1.3 million federal grant to help pay for two ferries to shuttle commuters between the two waterfront communities; East Boston had long been promised ferry service.

MassDOT plans to shut the Casey Overpass on Oct. 5 and 6 for emergency repairs to the road surface "to ensure the bridge can remain open during snow and ice events."

And that's just the start. The state says some 17 sections of the overpass, which is slated to be completely be torn down, need repair, and that it will have to be shut for three more weekends as well. Also:

During the closures, MassDOT is intending to remove the existing driving surface with jackhammers. As a result, there will be noise associated with this work. The end result will be an improved riding surface.

A fed-up citizen in South Boston is outraged that his or her hallowed right to double park on Broadway has been taken away by a lame Hubway station:

Get rid of these stupid things! They are taking up valuable parking spaces. This is a high traffic area right in front of a busy store and Dunkin Donuts. Someone is going to get hurt! There is a parking lot 50 feet away with an area on the side off of the main street to place these bikes that no one wants to ride.

Cellucci

Kevin Cellucci was the other driver in that horrific Arborway crash, the one who was just minding his own business when an SUV careened from the other side and hit his pickup head on.

Cellucci, 33, and a carpenter, was on the way to a job. He's married to Tina and has three sons, Stephen, 5, Declan, 3, and Paul, 2 months.

His friends and fellow members of Local 40, have set up a foundation to help the Celluccis pay their medical and living expenses. They're holding a fundraiser Nov. 2 at the IBEW hall in Dorchester and are accepting donations online.

A West Roxbury teenager, driving three other teens that day, faces criminal charges for the collision, which also left one of his passengers with permanent brain and spinal injuries.

A concerned citizen frets:

Is there something we can do to curb the throngs of BU students from crossing Comm Ave against the walk light? They haphazardly cascade across the street between classes, with no regard for vehicles and bikes. Not only is it unsafe for them, but it creates a dangerous driving situation. Thanks!

Nikolas Papadopoulos, 18, will be charged with a slew of violations for a Sept. 6 crash that sent six people to the hospital - one of them a 14-year-old who suffered "life altering" brain and spine injuries after being ejected from Papadopoulos's SUV and another the other driver, who remains in a medically induced coma, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office and State Police say.

Unfortunately, that track is part of the Old Colony commuter-rail line, next to the Red Line in North Quincy, so now there are all sorts of delays as crews try to get the fool car off the tracks.

An MBTA spokesman says a ZipCar-driving Somerville man will be cited by Quincy Police.
