A man already facing charges of leading police from four towns on a high-speed chase down Rte. 9 was arrested today on charges he started up a car on the floor of a car dealership and smashed it into another car.
Ender Durgut, 39, was charged with willful and malicious destruction of property, larceny of a motor vehicle and assault by means of a dangerous weapon (a motor vehicle) following the 10:20 a.m. incident at Herb Chambers Toyota, 32 Brighton Ave., police report. Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office say Durgut walked into the showroom and said he wanted to buy a Venza to replace the one he crashed in March, got into one, started it up, then drove it into a Prius.
Officers noted that both cars sustained what appeared to be minor damage. After an employee reached into the car and turned the off engine, the suspect exited the car and walked out of the dealership.
Police say they found Durgut around the corner on Comm. Ave.
