Transit Police report the B Line was knocked out of commission for about 45 minutes around 9 p.m. on Wednesday after a driver somehow wound up facing towards Newton on the inbound tracks at Commonwealth Avenue and St. Thomas More Road. The driver of the diminutive sedan told police "he took a wrong turn and ended up stuck on the tracks." No injuries, at least.
The Boston Cyclists Union reports the death of Samuel Alvarado, 21, hit by a garbage truck at Cambridge and Hano streets in Allston Tuesday morning. Read more.

The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee told police that when the Ford F-150 in front of him on Centre Street in West Roxbury wasn't moving, he figured he'd just swing around into the left lane and be on his way, according to a copy of a Boston Police report on a crash at the crosswalk at Centre and Maple streets around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday. Long overdue, the new North Washington Street bridge could finally begin carrying traffic this month
The Beacon Hill Times reports the new North Washington Street Bridge, bedeviled by construction problems, will open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Dec. 9. Only one side of the bridge will be open to traffic in both directions - with final completion not expected until December, 2024, since contractors first have to take down the current temporary bridge to complete the inbound side of the permanent bridge.
A 53-year-old man walking across Centre Street in West Roxbury suffered head and rib injuries after being hit by an SUV near the TD Bank branch around 3:40 p.m. Read more.

A Sumner School staff member suffered minor injuries this afternoon while helping students cross Cummins Highway in Roslindale Square near the former Washington Irving Middle School that is now the Sumner's upper school, according to e-mail sent to parents by school Principal Meghan Welch. WCVB reports one person was pronounced dead at the scene after a crash at Blue Hill Avenue and American Legion Highway around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday. A second person was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
