The Boston Licensing Board this week granted valuable full-liquor licenses to several North End restaurants that say they need to fend off advances from fancier places on the waterfront.

But with only a total of ten of the new licenses to dole out - and several of those already awarded - the board also denied requests from several restaurants in the North End, on the waterfront and in some other neighborhoods. Read more.

When federal officials announced the indictments of 56 alleged MS-13 members on charges that included the murder of three teens in East Boston, city and school officials began working on programs to keep kids at East Boston High School out of gangs.

But after hearing parents and residents complain at a community meeting tonight that gangs were reaching kids even younger than that, Mayor Walsh said he's going to insist efforts begin in first grade. Read more.

That's what happened around 8:20 a.m. at the Loftel hotel construction site at Porter and Orleans streets in East Boston and now the surrounding roads are blocked off as crews try to fix the damage.

The 64-page federal indictment against alleged local members of the murdering, drug-running MS-13 provides some details on the gang-war murders of three teenagers in East Boston between September and January: Two were killed by gang members looking for promotions by proving they could murder somebody while the third died because gang leaders had decided at a meeting to step up its wars with rivals across the eastern US. Federal and local authorities are reporting the arrest of 56 MS-13 gang members, who they say recruited young teens at East Boston, Chelsea and Everett high schools and are to blame for five murders and 14 attempted murders of rival gang members since 2014 - including three teens murdered in East Boston over the past four months. Wanted for Maverick Square shooting

Transit Police report they have obtained a search warrant for the arrest of Rogelio Alvarado, 21, for last week's double shooting at the Maverick Blue Line station.

Alvarado faces charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as a number of firearms violations, police say. Read more.

Man, remember the days when we waited for the snow to get at least two feet high before getting this angry? A disgusted citizen on Prescott Street in East Boston complains:

This is the note we found on our window this morning. Please address that space-savers are not allowed after not shoveling and only getting 4 inches of snow.

Boston Fire Wire reports Boston firefighters responded to 86 Condor St. around 9:15 a.m. for what turned into a two-alarm blaze that spread through ducts to the roof, sparked, the Boston Fire Department reports, by a short in a heating-system wire. Read more.

UPDATE, 4:19 p.m. The Blue Line has resumed service through Maverick and Maverick Square has been re-opened to traffic.

Maverick Square is shut down as Transit and Boston Police investigate a double shooting inside the Blue Line station around 2:30 p.m.

One witness reports it happened on a train.

Buses are running instead of the Blue Line between Bowdoin and Airport. Congress Street downtown was shut between State and Washington due to congestion caused by all the buses.
