Fire scene at 1191 Boylston St. in the Fenway

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 1191 Boylston St., across from the Victory Gardens, around 1:05 a.m. for a fire that they contained to just one apartment but which injured its occupant and forced more than 50 other residents into the street.

The cause of the fire, which did an estimated $1 million in damage, is under investigation, the department says.

A Boston University sophomore and her father have sued Boston University to demand they be reimbursed a chunk of her tuition because she's been forced to endure a "second-rate online substitute" since the school shut its campus in March due to Covid-19. Read more.

Mayor Walsh said today that city transportation planners have started looking at expanding sidewalks out into the street, at least temporarily, to give restaurants and other businesses more room to conduct business as the weather gets nicer and they're still constrained by Covid-19 social-distancing requirements. Northeastern University President Joseph Aoun announced today that the school's dormitories and classrooms will be open for the fall semester - even if that means expanding the number of buildings the school owns or rents to house students in a more socially-distancing setting and starting up "large-scale deployment of testing and contact tracing." The owners of the Boston Fenway Inn hostel on Hemenway Street - who also own the tonier Copley Square Hotel - will learn Thursday whether the Boston Licensing Board will accept their offer to just shut the place down while they make upgrades to reduce the number of times police have to respond to deal with problem guests. The Atlantic takes a look on the coronavirus pandemic on air and noise pollution, and talks to a public-health researcher at Boston University, who now gets her exercise while carrying a decibel meter:

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the acoustic environment in Kenmore Square, a busy intersection near campus, is usually about 90 decibels during rush hour. Yesterday, Walker’s rush-hour readings were just under 68 decibels.
