re: Sked
"Sked" was the term for a druggie in Clinton (Cli'in) when I was growing up too. It was used to denote dropouts too.
re: Sked
I grew up in Harvard, went to Bromfield, but never heard of sked. We always said reefah-head
re: Sked
We know Sked to be a polite old man, not a teenage druggie as you so incorrectly put it! How dare you insinuate that such a noble old man could ever have partaken in such a discusting act as mainlining heroin into his testicles! He did, however, drink rather copious amounts of Heineken!
re: Sked
^ahahahahahahha
re: Sked
I agree with the posting made on June 27th above - Sked is definitely not a teenage druggie. Sked is in fact a corpulent arms dealer operating under the cover of a Nissan Micra used car salesman. If anybody wants a cheap Micra, Sked is your man. If anybody wants extra ice cream, Sked is not your man.
re: Sked
No way is Sked a teenage druggie. I, and most of Sked's friends, are insulted and bemused at the total lack of respect afforded to this living legend. Does it really make us feel better about ourselves to bring down a man a great as Sked? Let us search for happiness within; let us seek meaning through helping our fellow man, but most importantly let us leave Sked's legend untarnished. Thank you for listening.
re: Sked
I am appalled that anybody could insinuate Sked mainlines heroin into his testicles. He has never taken drugs (well Class A drugs anyway) in his life. And, shame on you Harvard Student for likening Sked to a 'Reefah Head'. For your reference, Sked's head is perfectly bald and doesn't resemble at all a Reefah. I suggest you spend more time studying, and less time 'Puffing the Magic Dragon'.
re: Sked
Sked was used in my hometown to denote druggies and burnouts. Plenty of Sked in Saugus. God Bless you Donnie Swanson, wherever you are.
re: Sked
Much Thanks for posting this
re: Sked
Over on this side of the pond (UK) a Sked is someone of viking origin; who were famous for raping and pillaging. We've had to give up raping, but still go out pillaging most Saturday nights!
re: Sked
It is also important to note that a 'Sked' is also one who is unlikely to take seconds of ice-cream and then leave it. The Colin's English Dictionary states clearly that Sked is the absense of Greediness. Shame on you all for not knowing, abba.
re: Sked
A Sked is widely known in North Yorkshire as a small man wearing a straw hat driving a white nissan micra. For those of you in the USA that is a car also known as the 'SKED'-mobile. It is also used to refer to a fit of rage which may involve Buckets and panes of glass, those such as a greenhouse might have. Abba!
re: Sked
Listen, duckies, a sked in the true sense of the word is a man whop consumes copious amounts of alcohol such as heineken on such a regular basis that it no longer affects him. It also denotes one who smells of moth balls.i hope my comments help to put all of this to rest as frankly I am appauled at these comments. Boston, I love you, Duckie.
re: Sked
Hello. I am a nun and I can offer the true definition of a 'SKED'. A sked is somebody who offers their body up for carnal rights. It is expressively forbidden within religious circles, but I am what others would call 'modern' and would try anything. Before I found God, I too indulged in a spot of Skedding as it is known.

re: Sked
well since this is guide to boston english, you can rule out what a Sked is in the UK, and elsewhere and is referring to slang terms, not biblical or from the dictionaryA sked is definetly aSaugusKidEnjoyingDrugs
re: Sked
I agree with Fig, Johnny and Heatures above. A Sked is a drug injecting, Heineken swilling, Nissan Micra driving, bank robbing, Usi 9mm wielding, hairy eared, money laundering, chrome domed psychopathic nutter. The Sked is a Yorkshire legend. I don't think there is a depravity that Sked has not sunk to or a barrel bottom that Sked has not scraped in his legendary quest for drugs and money.PS I come from Boston in Lincolnshire and just don't know where the hell Saugus is.
re: Sked
At St. Mary's in the 90s, the skeds were devout listeners of "Bedtime Magic with David Allan Boucher" on 106.7. If you went a night without tuning in, you were a "FOE" for the next day.(Why do I still remember this?)
re: Sked
I live in Ontario, Canada. I am familiar with a variation of this word. I am familiar and have used the term 'skid' many times. It has the same meaning, being teenaged druggie, but it also implies scuzziness and 'dirt skid' also is used, or at least when I was in high school about 15 years ago.
re: Sked
I don't recall hearing this term when I grew up in Wakefield in the 70s & 80s."Burnout" was the most common term for describing the young drug users.
re: Sked
Oh yes, I lived in Saugus from age 12 - 17. The skeds were the kids to did drugs, got in trouble, etc. My good old friend Maura (where ever you are I think of you often and wonder how the heck you are!) Maura even wrote a hysterically funny paper back then called "How to be a sked" and, being a sked herself, actually passed it in! It was a great paper.
re: Sked
Listen up everyone. I grew up in Saugus and graduated SHS in '91. Skeds were the burnout metalheads in town. Gary, Karlos and Melissa know the deal.'Skeds Rule!'
