The Hyde Park Historical Society has asked the state to formally designate Sprague Pond, just off Sprague Street and next to the Northeast Corridor train tracks at the Dedham line, as an official "great pond." Read more.

The Boston Fire Department reports one worker was injured when the front porch at 34 Pleasant St. in Hyde Park collapsed this afternoon. The cause is under investigation.

Hyde Park, Roslindale and Mattapan residents who want to preserve the 24-acre Crane's Ledge property on and above American Legion Highway near the Walgreens say they hope to make a case that the city buy the land to preserve it in its current wooded, rocky state, but that failing that, they will look to a recently enacted state environmental law that requires extensive study of any large projects affecting poorer or minority neighborhoods. Live Boston reports Boston Police responded to Gordon Avenue at Enneking Parkway last night after reports of gunfire in the area - two days after Boston firefighters responded to a house fire on Gordon Avenue just a few doors away. Read more.

Boston firefighters at Grassmere and DeForest in Hyde Park

Boston firefighters responded shortly after 12:30 p.m. to Grassmere Road and DeForest Street for a fire inside the garage that serves as a sort of neighborhood landmark.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames.

The Bulletin reports that the River Street mall with the Price Rite and the Burger King at the Hyde Park/Mattapan line, could get a Starbucks and a Planet Fitness.

Developer Todd Finard, who has been trying to fill the space left vacant since he tore down what was left of the old paper mill there in 2007 and 2008, will hold a community meeting on the two possible additions to the Shops at Riverwood at 6 p.m. on March 24.

Firefighters at Braeburn Road fire

Boston firefighters responded to 11 Braeburn Rd., near Myopia Road, around 11 a.m. for a fire that broke out in a second-floor bedroom around 11 a.m. Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down.
