Steam roller rolling art

It's not often a steam roller gets to make art.

Go big or go home, some artists in Hyde Park decided. They cut out large blocks of wood or linoleum, then used a driveway steam roller to create prints, at the annual Urban Arts Festival at the Martini Shell on Truman Parkway.

The Hyde Park Arts Association's Urban Arts Festival and Battle of the Arts tomorrow will feature, among other things:

Steam-roller Mega Printing: Artists and their teams will ink pre-carved relief blocks and then roll them over with an industrial steamroller to create their oversized prints.

It's noon to 5 p.m. at the Martini Shell on Truman Parkway.

Angelo Scaccia, who has served in the state House of Representatives since 1973 - except for two years - won re-election tonight in the 14th Suffolk district, which covers Hyde Park and parts of Roslindale and West Roxbury.

Boston was in the middle of one of those winter thaws we always seem to get: From a low of -7 on Feb. 5, the temperature shot up to 55 on Feb. 9, National Weather Service records show. On Feb. 10, with the temperature still a relatively balmy 40, rain started around 7:45 a.m. And then it kept coming. Read more.

State Police are looking for the occupant of a car that pumped repeated shot into another car around 6:15 p.m. on Truman Parkway, near Neponset Avenue, sending the driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.Read more.

New Sprague Street proposal

Developer Jordan Warshaw has filed new plans for his proposed Sprague Street complex that call for fewer units and bedrooms - and the elimination of a proposed steel-frame tower reading "READVILLE" that was intended to bring attention to a neighborhood whose residents had loudly said they didn't want any. Richard Poillucci, 62, owner of Automotive Specialties, Inc. on Providence Street in Hyde Park - right behind the E-18 police station - admitted in federal court today that he cashed checks from customers at check-cashing places in two states in a bid to hide the income and avoid taxes on it. Progressive West Roxbury/Roslindale isn't endorsing any candidates in the 14th Suffolk state-rep race (Hyde Park, Roslindale and West Roxbury), because neither of the progressive candidates - Gretchen Van Ness and Segun Idowu - were able to get the required 60% of the vote at a recent endorsement meeting. Roosters in Roslindale

A clucked off resident cries fowl about a pair of roosters on Holly Road in Roslindale:

Neighbor has two roosters in their unenclosed yard. Animal control told me roosters are illegal in Boston. They are loud and obnoxious and have started to enter other yards.
