The New England Center for Investigative Reporting reports on stubbornly high mercury levels in fish across the ponds and lakes of New ENgland, including Jamaica Pond:

On Boston’s Jamaica Pond one recent sunny afternoon, Shu Bao Chen of Boston tied bait to a hook as one of his two young girls dangled a fishing pole over the still water. He said he was unaware of the state’s blanket advisory that no children under 12 and no women of childbearing years should eat any fish from freshwater bodies in Massachusetts.

A fed-up citizen reports he was so tired of waiting for the city to do something about an overactive sprinkler on Perkins Street that kept watering the sidewalk that he finally did something:

I ripped the sprinkler out of the ground yesterday, so I guess you can close both cases now. I was sick of having to choose between getting wet and walking on a busy street with my back to the speeding cars. You're welcome.

Search along the Southwest Corridor in Jamaica Plain

Around 8 p.m., BPD officers tried to stop a car in the area of McBride Street in Jamaica Plain as part of a drug investigation. Seems the driver didn't want to be stopped, so he took off, with officers in pursuit. Just as a supervisor was about to call off the search, officers managed to box the car in near English High School.

They collared one of the cars occupants, but another took off down through the Southwest Corridor Park. Read more.

Protesters gathered before the meeting.

The day after Boston 2024 announced their revised plans, organizers of a city forum on the games tried a new approach in Jamaica Plain: Splitting the meeting into three parts, to discuss different ramifications of the would-be games.

"They're separating us to take away our voice!" some protesters yelled at the English High School session, not far from Franklin Park, which remains the proposed venue for equestrian events and the pentathlon. Read more.

Crumbling Casey Overpass continues to come down

Karen Springer is your host for this episode of "Today in the Demise of the Casey Overpass."

Ed. note: It's too bad the supports weren't just a bit closer together - or taller. Because it would just be super amazing to take off just the roadway, then have a bulldozer or something push the very first/last one and watch them all tumble like dominoes.
