New Orange Line train taken out of service

At 8:13 a.m., Sam Hammar was one happy Orange Line camper: She got to Oak Grove and there, waiting for her like a shiny new carriage was one of the new Orange Line trains. She was so excited, she posted a video - with hearts on it.

The MBTA at first reported Orange Line delays of up to 20 minutes because of "a power problem" near Malden Center, then just gave up and brought in the shuttle buses between Oak Grove and Wellington.

Truck storrowed in Malden

The T reports no Orange Line service between Sullivan and Tufts "due to the late completion of weekend work" - the repair work that was supposed to make the Orange Line more reliable. Read more.

WGBH reports that one of the little metal signs that lets T workers know where underground wires and stuff are came loose just as a train was passing by at the Medford/Malden line and came into contact with both the third rail and one of the train's electrical "shoes," causing a big spark that started a fire.

Manny Lim was among the growing horde stuck at Malden Center shortly after 7 a.m., what with firefighters on the tracks investigating the source of smoke rising from them. The T reports everything's back to normal now.

The MBTA has to reset its "It's been __ days since last T disaster" signs now that a track fire erupted under a train in Malden shortly after 3 p.m., forcing its passengers to evacuate on the tracks and shutting down the entire line from Community College to Oak Grove just as rush hour was about to start.

Everett man arrest

Transit Police report arresting an Everett man on a charge of open and gross lewdness on the Malden Center commuter-rail platform after, they say, people waiting on the neighboring Orange Line platform turned to see where some grunting sounds were coming from around 7:25 p.m. yesterday. Read more.

Truck wedged under an Orange Street bridge in Malden

Gordon Hallett shows us that yet another truck driver has learned a valuable lesson at the bridge that carries the Orange Line over Medford Street in Malden around noon today: That if a bridge has a sign reading 12'6", you better make sure your truck is a couple inches shorter than that, or you're going to get mocked mercilessly for storrowing a bridge. And a ticket.

Wanted for larceny at Oak Grove Orange Line station
