The Globe reports on the first day of the Tsarnaev trial, which included his lawyer laying the groundwork to blame it all on his older, and, of course, dead, brother and testimony from a manager at Marathon Sports, outside of which one of the bombs exploded.

Tsarnaev faces a possible death sentence if convicted.

The US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit today denied a motion by Dzokhar Tsarnaev's lawyers to delay his trial to let them argue why the trial should be moved somewhere else.

The 2-1 ruling means jury selection starts Monday in a case that could mean the death penalty for the Cambridge resident accused of helping to carry out the deadly 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and of murdering an MIT police officer.

WCVB reports on the scene outside the Moakely Courthouse this morning before a hearing in the Dzhokhar Tsarnaev case:

As Marc Fucarile was entering the courthouse, he overheard Valerie Vanetta and Karin Friedemann speaking to the media about the case and their support of Tsarnaev.

Fucarile stopped, lifted his prosthetic leg and asked the supporters, "That's trickery?" before he continued into the building.

Associated Press reports Suffolk County prosecutors didn't have enough evidence to prove that Kevin "Kayvan" Edson "communicated a clear threat" when he allegedly danced toward the Marathon finish line in a black outfit and put a backpack with a rice cooker there.
