That would be outbound on the B trolley the night the college kids get back from spring break AND people return from the St. Patrick's Day parade, Ms Maggie Moo reports:

... [A]ll of the students from the 2 colleges I live between were coming back from the airport. They were sports teams and had TONS of bags. In addition, people were still coming back from the pubs and they were extremely smelly and extremely drunk. Normally, this would be funny, but when you are wedged between a large man in a mustard colored leather jacket and a small old Asian woman who's breath smells like dog poop, it just makes you angry. ...

Statistics from the American Public Transportation Association show that while the use of public transit in the U.S. increased 2.1% last year, it decreased 2.9% in the region served by the MBTA. The change in subway usage was particularly striking: Down 7.8% here, compared with a 3.1% increase in other US cities with subways.

Tom Fulry discusses the Jesus people with the cardboard signs who he says accosted him on the mezzanine of Hynes station a few weeks back:

As I walk by them: "All Jews are going to hell. Take your bombs back to Israel or convert to Christianity."

He reported them to a station attendant, who started yelling at them. Now, he writes, they're back in the station, but this time with a phalanx of eight MBTA cops to protect them.

Disco Man

I'm probably just imagining it, but whoever put this guy up at the BPL entrance to Copley station sure seems to be pining for the days of Donna Summer.

A story for our times, involving a little boy, a mean seat-stealing lady and an entire trolley of onlookers.

You can't make this stuff up. The Herald reports:

Top MBTA officials acknowledge that for years the agency has been secretly cutting thousands of bus and train trips from published schedules to lower costs - a practice that has left legions of customers waiting for rides that arrived late or not at all.

Maybe it's just as well the MBTA and its predecessors have spent the last 60 years or so taking out trolley lines; imagine if there were more streets like Huntington Avenue by Mission Hill where Massholes got to scream and curse out trolley drivers for daring to stop to let passengers off?

... This guy is literally leaning out the window, screaming at the driver of the first [trolley] car. I of course had my window cracked to hear every sweet word of invective this moron was letting loose.

And then had a good chuckle because just ahead of the first car, just past the intersection, was a cop car. And as we all started moving again, guess who was getting pulled over? ...

Fire in the hole, on the tracks between Boylston and Arlington Friday afternoon:

... FD had a hard time verifying that the power to the trains was turned off before they could go into the tunnels: lots of conflicting reports about whether or not the T had turned it off. ...

Gnomi was on an outbound C car around 5:15 p.m. yesterday when the trolley stopped in the tunnel just past Park Street. After about 15 minutes:

... There was a garbled message from the conductor that said something about "evacuating," causing all the people around me to look at each other confusedly, but at that point I put my knitting away. A couple of minutes later, there was moving at the back-back door of the car, and people started moving. We were being evacuated back to Park St. (about a 1/2 block walk through the tunnel), where there was another C train waiting for us. That train ended up even more crowded than the original C, but we eventually all got on and were moving through the other side of the tunnel (we passed the stuck train, and we saw that the people on the front car had not been evacuated and were still waiting). ...

Paul Levy, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, posts a complaint from an employee who takes the Green Line and a bus between Brookline and Beth Israel's Needham campus: Those "free" transfers the MBTA promised when they raised rates have a time limit built in.

... Apparently, your CharlieCard is time-stamped when you first get on the trolley line, and if the time you enter the bus is more than a certain number of minutes afterward, the discount doesn't work. Ditto on the return trip. A bus driver told this passenger that the second ride has to begin within 20 minutes of the first ride. ...

As he notes, that makes the transfer policy useless if, oh, your connecting bus is late or runs infrequently. And he's left scratching his head wondering why the MBTA would do this.

The MBTA is currently busing Green Line passengers between North Station and Lechmere due to "fire department activity at Science Park."

MBTA police say violent and theft-related crime in the transit system dropped 10% last year, but that non-violent crime, such as public drunkeness and lewdness, vandalism and mouthing off (a.k.a. "simple assault") went up 12%.

In terms of percentages, the Blue Line was the most peaceful line, barely beating out the Green Line. Surprisingly, commuter rail had almost as many violent incidents per 100,000 riders as the Orange Line, although in both cases, the odds of getting attacked or robbed were still fairly small (0.45 incidents per 100,000 riders on the Orange Line; 0.41 on commuter rail).

La Diabla notices the apparently homeless guy on the T. She notices he has a GI feeding tube and is using a large syringe to pump a dark liquid into it. And then:

... [H]e reaches down to the plastic bag at his feet, and pulls out a bottle of cheap-ass red wine, and he refills the fuckin' tube. And plunges it in.

Dude.

DUDE. ...

Just a guess, but it probably wasn't this homeless guy, spotted at a Red Line stop in Cambridge.
