Orange Line

By adamg - 6/9/16 - 9:40 am

UPDATE, 10:10 a.m. The problem was briefly so severe the T was busing passengers between Forest Hills and Stony Brook, but they say it's all good now.

A T alert of "moderate" delays on the inbound Orange Line due to signal problems at Forest Hills was, of course, followed shortly after by a T alert of "moderate" delays on the outbound Orange Line.

Rusted out old Orange Line train

More Bondo, stat! From the report.

The MBTA last year quietly increased the spacing between trains during rush hour, decreasing the line's peak-time capacity by 25% and increasing the odds that frustrated passengers at certain stops won't even be able to get on a train at all because they're already full to bursting. Read more.

Firefighters are at Haymarket. Expect delays.

The MBTA says service on the Orange Line is back to normal after the "severe" delays caused by a train that acted like a cat that had already gone through nine lives at Assembly Square.

This morning:
It's no joke when a train begins to smoke.

By adamg - 5/31/16 - 7:55 am

The Orange Line wilted around 6 a.m. when a train headed towards Forest Hills began to smoke at State Street.

Sarah Kaney noticed a sad Hubway bike abandoned on the Orange Line this evening.

Fallen tree on the Orange Line

A tree that plunged to the Orange Line tracks around 11:50 a.m. caused "moderate" delays inbound from points north. To the re-leaf of riders, crews cleared the woody wreckage in about an hour, although the T was advising residual delays could persist for awhile.

A train that suddenly went to its eternal rest at Mass. Ave. didn't help matters.

Laura Keith reported around 10:50 a.m.:

Ummm. There's a big slab of raw meat on the stairs at the Washington St entrance to Tufts Medical Center station.

The T replies:

We are sending a cleaner to take care of this asap.

Meadowcroft

After he was charged with spray painting his tag on the old trolleys at Boylston station, police say, Marc Meadowcroft of Revere promised to never do it again. In exchange, authorities agreed to a plea deal that kept him out of jail.

He lied, police say. Read more.

JetBlue pigeons in Back Bay station on the Orange Line

As CB shows us, one of the JetBlue pigeon ads that have taken over Back Bay on the Orange Line could only have been designed by somebody who knows about the problem the T has with pigeons down there.

Dead Orange Line train at Stony Brook

Suddenly finding himself with no way to go further north than Stony Brook around 6:20 a.m., Todd Cosentino had plenty of time to photograph the flatlined Orange Line train at Stony Brook. The T says service has since resumed.

UPDATE, 8:30 a.m. Jen Vesp reports: "FYI, the Orange Line is an absolute nightmare this morning. I've only been waiting 50 minutes to fit on a train."

By adamg - 4/30/16 - 10:44 am

The T reports escalators and elevators at Haymarket, North Station, Government Center, Lechmere and Science Park aren't working because they've lost power. That also means the fare gates at some stations are open and the lights are off. The T is running a shuttle bus between Park Street and Lechmere for Green Line riders who can't take the stairs.

Still, trains into town from the north are being slowed by switch issues at Wellington.

By adamg - 4/27/16 - 5:57 pm

The T is reporting "moderate" delays on the Orange Line due to a train that started pining for the fjords at Wellington.

By adamg - 4/26/16 - 10:58 pm

Shortly before 8 p.m., a train crawled into a hole at Sullivan and refused to come out, causing the dreaded "severe" delays.

Meanwhile, a Green Line trolley died at Boylston and a Red Line train flatlined at Porter. But at least the Blue Line kept things snappy.

By adamg - 4/24/16 - 10:32 pm

The T managed to get the carcass of the Orange Line train removed somehow, but even the residual delays are still "moderate." As Adam Cyr, who got stuck in the maelstrom, reports:

45 minutes stuck at DTX because they can't figure out how to push a train out of the way from Chinatown.

Blackout at Back Bay station on the Orange Line

The lights went out at Tufts and Back Bay on the Orange Line this rush hour, slowing trains as riders stumbled in the dark. At least, as Joe Growhowski shows us, Back Bay had some natural light coming in from one end.

It's "severe" delays on the Florida Sunshine line thanks to a dead train at Jackson Square.

No clue about the Red Line, but there's police action at Mass. Ave. on the Orange Line.
