The MBTA reports "moderate" delays on the Red Line due to signal issues at Porter Square. Ben Chan reports his normal 25-minute commute from Quincy took an hour this morning.

Commuters like myself are frustrated and pretty annoyed.

At 6:01 p.m., the MBTA reported "moderate" delays on the Orange Line towards Forest Hills after a train gasped its last at Downtown Crossing - the second Orange Line train to die in today's afternoon rush hour.

The MBTA says it's disposed of the remains of a dead train at JFK/UMass and so the Red Line should be back to what passes for normal nowadays.

MassDOT announced today that it's installing specialized traffic signal systems along Beacon Street in Brookline, and Comm. Ave. and Huntington Ave. in Boston that will switch to green lights for approaching trolleys. Mass. Ave. in Cambridge will get similar treatment for buses. Read more.

After not taking Commuter Rail for several weeks, I got a surprise as I had to pass through a gauntlet at South Station on the way to Fairmount early this afternoon. Some Campbell's-kids looking junior T employees confronted every aspiring passenger at the entry to Track 9. They demanded tickets for that specific train. I carped as I had to unburden myself of my Haymarket goodies and coffee to dig into my shirt pocket. The kid blocking me tried to be solemn in saying, "It's in the tariff!" Read more.

Veeconley reports the T is once again using both tracks at Forest Hills, which should shave a minute or two off commutes to there. Of course, that does nothing to solve delays caused by the Orange Line just being the Orange Line, but it's a start.
