Commuters who missed morning delays caused by a dead train get a chance to experience delays caused by a dead train in the evening.

But don't worry: The T says it already has plans for more service cuts should the legislature not do anything by July 1.

If you guessed Friday afternoon rush hour, you win! Unlike the people now stuck waiting for shuttle buses to get them around the downed wire at Newton Centre, who lose.

The MBTA said April ridership was up 4.4% over April of last year, and that bus ridership topped 400,000 weekday rides for the first time ever. Officials credited the widespread use of smart-phone apps that let riders know when the next bus is coming, along with an inproving economy.

Green Line ridership led the subway lines with an 8.2% ridership increase.

T officials have factored in a possible ridership decrease starting July 1, when fares increase.

On a D Line train in Newton delayed by a turtle on the track. Driver has announced she can't move the train because the turtle will die. Waiting for an official to move the turtle.

A few minutes later, she reported two MBTA officials arrived to try to move the recalcitrant reptile.

UPDATE, 5:30 a.m.: The MBTA says repairs were completed overnight, regular service resuming.

Something about Blue Line trains just hates those overhead wires. Mike Miccoli, though, doesn't mind:

Oh sweet! The MBTA is providing free shuttle buses! During rush hour! Those guys are the best!

There are a quarter of a million stories on the Red Line. Tom Bruno reports from the Red Line this afternoon:

Drunk guy in a track suit just poured himself a drink and took off his shirt to change between Central and Kendall. Only on the MBTA! Looked like something vile mixed with a bottle of Starbucks Frappucino! Worst part was that you could smell it half-way across the car!

MBTA app The Herald reports MBTA Transit Police today launch an iPhone app that will let T riders instantly report pervs and suspicious packages.

The new app is already available for download in the Apple App Store as MBTA See Say and will be available today on the Transit Police Web site.

In addition to text reports, users will be able to click a button to connect to a police dispatcher, at least in areas along their route where they have cell service.

An Android version is planned for later release, the T says.

Ed. question: Is that intersection cursed, or what?
