The T

Should we walk, or do we have time to take the T?

, the answer apparently is: It doesn't make a difference.

In their latest attempt to cover up how minimal the replacement shuttle bus service between North Station and Lechmere really is, the MBTA has just put up a series of new posters at North Station "suggesting" that people destined for Science Park might want to walk there instead of taking the shuttle bus. The read (in part):

Getting To Science Park

Shuttle Bus: 15 Minutes
Walking: 15 Minutes

Take a look at these two tickets. I've been told they're valid tickets for the commuter rail from last month and this month. Do you see the problem? Can anyone confirm that this is for real on their own June 2011 ticket?

Seems MBCR will have mimes stationed in North and South stations this afternoon to help usher in the expansion of quiet-car service across all the T's commuter-rail lines.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports an unexpected federal grant could provide enough money to start work on the $200-million rehab of the "temporary" facility - which the T recently said it couldn't do at all.

An alert citizen reported an urgent situation at the Back Bay MBTA station:

Screaming woman and two men drinking a bottle of Listerine.

Drinking Listerine straight? Not on the rocks, at least? Alas, nothing the city could do but forward the complaint to the T, since it's their jurisdiction.

Sure, the T proved Saturday it has lots of capacity on commuter rail, carrying almost twice as many people to and from the parade as it does on a normal workday. But that was of little solace to people waiting at "inner" stops closer to Boston, who watched full train after full train just whiz right by them without stopping. Among them: Charley on the MTA, who describes his experience at West Medford:

At 10am a train whizzed by, blowing its horn, didn't stop.

Another train whizzed by, blowing its horn, didn't stop.

Orange Line tracks kinky in the heat in Malden

An Orange Line problem Ray Davies would love. Photo by MBTA.

A "heat kink" in the tracks near Malden (above) is wreaking all sorts of havoc on the Orange Line this afternoon, forcing Oak Grove-bound riders onto buses at Wellington - which is also causing problems on the bus lines from which buses have been diverted to shuttle subway riders. Read more.

The T says it's beefing up service on Saturday for the Bruins victory parade, which kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Garden.

All four subway lines will run at "near rush hour" schedules during the day. The T says it will also have extra orange-vested workers stationed throughout the system to help riders unfamiliar with how to use CharlieCards or get to the parade route.

The T said commuter rail will run on its normal Saturday schedule, but that it hopes to announce some additional service tomorrow.

Last week, Boston hosted the American Public Transportation Association's annual rail conference. A highlight of the conference is always the rail rodeo, in which teams from subway systems across the continent compete in both train maintenance and operation.
