Authorities are investigating the burning of a track-repair car on an MBTA Commuter Rail track in Bridgewater, police said.

Bridgewater authorities said the fire occurred between Plymouth and Broad streets about 5:30 p.m.

From a nearby backyard barbecue, Justin Fuller, 22, said he saw the flames engulf the MBTA vehicle. He said it appeared a propane tank was attached to the machinery.

The MBTA did not immediately respond to calls.

“All of a sudden, we saw flames,” the Bridgewater State University student said in a telephone interview.

The MBTA introduced its new Premier Class service the other night - or maybe it was all an elaborate performance:

The butlers handed out magazines for passengers to enjoy and offered platters of snacks. ... Meanwhile, as our attendants dutifully cleaned and wiped the cars' interiors, our musicians behind them filled the air with lilting, soothing melodies.

An MBTA Transit Police report on Monday's Dudley Street crash offers witnesses corroborating the driver's version of events - that he stopped the bus and ordered a bunch of teens off the bus for smoking but that two, including one who at first demanded he "shut the fuck up and drive the bus" caught up to him at the front door and began beating him

Michael Anthony Baptista, who said he was on his way to a job fair, was released on personal recognizance. Felix Garcia was ordered held for violating bail conditions on unrelated larceny and assult charges.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office paints a different picture, saying in a statement:

Surprisingly, though, not on the menagerie that is the Red Line. Andrew Holleron tweets from an inbound D trolley on the Green Line this morning:

Wasps on a crowded train. Oddly enough, calm reserve, no panic. Heroic woman pockets one wasp in a napkin.

We're hearing tales that a rare four-hump, um, car Green Line trolley was spotted in the tunnels between Kenmore and Park after Sox games this past weekend. Could it return after tonight's Rays games? Of course, its name is Tessie. Pix or it doesn't exist.
