A train that headed across the rainbow bridge is causing the dreaded "severe" delays in both directions on the Red Line this morning.

UPDATE: The T reported at 7:44 a.m. that regular service had resumed.

An inbound trolley on the Riverside Line crossed the River Styx this morning, leaving riders in the lurch. Nobody Would Care reported at 7:45:

Train died at chestnut hill. Second train just came and is pushing the dead train. It's been 30 min so far.

Starting tonight, the T will be shutting down the Orange Line between Wellington and Oak Grove starting at 8:45 p.m. at night so workers can get the tracks ready for winter - except for Friday and Saturday nights, when service will run as usual.

You may recall that particular stretch of Orange Line proved particularly troublesome in the winter of our discontent. Workers will be installing heaters along the third rail and at switches to prevent the tracks from turning into a glacier again, in a $12.7 million project, MassDOT reports.

Dog resecued from Green Line tracks at Park Street

A dog wandering through the Green Line tunnel between Boylston and Park today was rescued thanks to an alert trolley driver and Green Line Inspector Tara Egan, the MBTA reports.

The Herald reports the Baker administration has stopped plans to buy "diesel multiple unit" trains that would have allowed the Fairmount Line to run at subway-like frequencies, saying now's not the time to load up on new technologies on the T. Read more.

DMUs are passenger coaches with their own diesel engines, which can be more easily assembled into smaller trains at non-peak hours; the Patrick administration had touted them as a way to improve service on the line - and also to serve the proposed West Station stop in Allston on the Worcester Line and connect Back Bay with the South Boston convention center.

A Chicago man was arraigned yesterday on charges he tried to shunt the driver aside and take the controls of an Orange Line train as it hurtled under Washington Street Tuesday night, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

New Jersey driver in the Harvard busway

Eheff was in the upper busway at Harvard Square this afternoon when somebody from New Jersey not only drove into the busway, but drove into it from the wrong direction.

Seems a driver didn't spot that tiny little trolley heading outbound in time and so ran into it at Comm. Ave. and St. Paul shortly after 6 p.m. No injuries, but service was, of course, disrupted until about 6:30.

A man already wanted for various crimes was charged with another early Saturday: Knocking over a vending machine at the Stony Brook stop on the Orange Line, Transit Police report.

A surveillance video shows Dayquan Hardy, 22, apparently being quite happy with his work - possibly because he knows he's cheated death by vending-machine crushing. Read more.

Firefighters had to foam down a smoking Red Line on the Longfellow Bridge just past Charles/MGH around 6 p.m. Gabriel Fishman, who captured the scene just as firefighters arrived, reports they made short work of whatever the problem was and that service seemed to start up not long after.

Transit Police report arresting a Woburn man after he was spotted piggybacking behind another person at the Back Bay Orange Line stop around 2:20 p.m. yesterday.

Police were initially just going to write Timothy Chapman, 35, a citation for fare evasion, but then arrested him after discovering there was a warrant for his arrest on motor-vehicle violations out of Concord District Court. Police say:

During booking Chapman was found to be in possession of nearly 7,000 dollars in US Currency. Yes that's correct, he evaded a $2.10 fare while in possession of nearly 7 thousand dollars and had a warrant for his arrest. Hmmmmmmm.
