Karen Hensel, who worked as an investigative reporter at NBC Boston from its start in 2016 until she was fired n 2019, today filed a sex discrimination suit against the station, accusing it of firing her over her relationship with the police chief of a Worcester suburb when other newsroom employees were getting away with the same thing or worse, except they were men - and of ignoring an unending barrage of harassment by one of her fellow investigative reporters. Hammann's fire tweet

The tweet with the video, from Hamman's complaint.

Update: The lawsuit includes a screen capture of a tweet that does not offer the video in question for sale. However, Hammann posted two tweets, one of which did offer a high-quality version of the video for sale to news organizations. The story has been updated with that.

A videojournalist who lives in Franklin today sued NBC Boston for re-using video he posted on Twitter of a fire in his hometown last year without either asking or paying him. Read more.

Grizzled Web veteran Steve Garfield of Jamaica Plain was interested in an NBC Boston promotion to have people buy winter clothes off an Amazon list for people who need them. But when he called up the Web site to find out more, it didn't have a clickable link to the wish list. Instead, it just had one of those QR code thingees, so to get to the list, you'd have to first scan in the code with your phone, which seems kind of silly on a medium designed to link people to things. Garfield provides the link.

NBC Boston reports an antenna issue has made it harder for people who watch it via their own antennas - along with that of some other Boston TV stations. It provides some tips on rescanning your tuner on how to get its alternate signal, if you're lucky enough to be close enough to its antenna, which is pumping out the station at a lower power.

Mark Garfinkel, laid off by the Herald in one of its stupider moves, reports he's been hired by NBC Boston, where he'll be doing both still photography and video.

He'll probably be competing at some news scenes with Stanley Forman, a Herald-American alumnus who now shoots for WCVB.

NBC Boston, which now calls itself NBC 10 Boston, has alerted people who watch it the old-fashioned way, with an antenna, on channel 60.5, that they'll have to rescan to pick up NBC 10 on channel 15.1 because 60.5 is going away forever on April 1.

WBZ's Bill Shields was standing at Plymouth Rock around 12:30 p.m., after he had been forced to put on goggles because of the high winds. He began shuffling to show us something. "Jesus!" he exclaimed, as the wind almost knocked him over.

Meanwhile, down in Sandwich, WBZ's Beth Germano and NBC Boston's Susan Tran both struggled not to be swept out into the angry sea. Tran brought a large yellow scarf with her to hold aloft to prove that it was, in fact, windy. Dan Hausle, also on a beach in Sandwich, picked up some flotsam, or possibly jetsam.

WCVB's David Bienick was standing by at the Charlton rest stop on the turnpike, where he scooped out some snow with his hand before running after some guy getting in his car to ask him, in so many words, what kind of idiot he was. WCVB later showed us a viewer photo of a ruler stuck in the snow, followed by another viewer photo of a patio table covered by snow.

Channel 7's Steve Cooper was out trudging in the snow in Sandwich with his wind-gauging garbage bag and polychromatic goggles, and various other reporters stuck rulers in snow mounds and dusted snow off benches and talked to plow operators, but, well, ho hum, we've seen it all before. It took newcomer Perry Russom at NBC Boston, fresh off stints at stations in Binghamton and Providence, to show us there's still new tricks in snow coverage, specifically, a bowling ball: Read more.

South Boston, not the South End

As befits the new kids in town, NBC Boston this morning covered the annual L Street Brownies run into the bay like this was the biggest news to happen around here in weeks. Alas, as Shaneoinsaino captured, they made one of those mistakes that suggests they have some new recruits up from New York or Chicago or some place.

ANCHORMAN COMPLETE FIGHT SCENE

The Herald reports the new NBC Boston is rolling out an armor-plated mobile Doppler radar with enough firepower to punch through the toughest New England storms and crush opposing weather teams. WCVB sneers at the putative competition, noting it has Boston's only meteorologist turned anchor in JC Monahan and, of course, Harvey Leonard.

Newscast Studio reports NBC is buying a big-ass weather truck that could run right over Channel 4's Mobile AccuWeather van and not even notice, as it gears up to launch NBC Boston on some New Hampshire UHF channel - and no doubt a low number on local Comcast systems. Read more.
