Flush with failure in Somerville, anti-Israel forces go after Cambridge and Jamaica Plain

Solomonia has the details on the latest efforts of the Somerville Divestment Project, which keeps not getting Somerville to sell off any holdings in companies that do business in Israel.

Of course, JP is just a neighborhood, but don't be surprised to see them hook up with city councilor Chuck Turner, who would love to have Israel disappear, Zionism being a major tool of white supremacists and all.

Disgusting. This is what happens when ignoramuses get together. Its just a simple smokescreen for plain ol' anti-semtitsm. When you're down and out and angry with the world for your lot in life, instead of bettering yourself and educating yourself, its easy to blame Israel, I guess.

while I agree that the SDP is not a particularly good way to respond to this volatile situation, both sides, meaning the israelis and Palestinians, as well as the Arab countries, must share blame here. That being said, you might want to really bone up on your history, and you'll see that.

Somerville is invested in only $250,000 worth of national bonds of the State of Israel. In 2006, nearly $1.2 billion were sold by the State of Israel. Regardless of your viewpoints on racism, apartheid, or whatever belief you may hold, the manpower and time spent by members supporting the Divestment Project would be better spent on a more worthy cause of greater impact.

Volunteering for local community services, donating to the hungry, encouraging friends and neighbors to recycle, lobbying our Congressmen to take action in Darfur, or otherwise beautifying the city would have a more beneficial impact on the world.

There are too many things going on here to be concerned about, that need far, far more concentration and attention than the SDP.

" Volunteering for local community services, donating to the hungry, encouraging friends and neighbors to recycle, lobbying our Congressmen to take action in Darfur, or otherwise beautifying the city would have a more beneficial impact on the world."

The above-mentioned quote from your post, especially, is spot-on!! Thanks.
