The miracle of movies: Moving Newbury Street to NYC

According to well placed sources, The Women is using Newbury Street as a stand-in for New York in at least one scene. Spies on the set reported seeing period New York City cabs on the street.

The Women

We were lucky enough to get invited to the set of The Women, last night. They were filming at Saks, in the Back Bay.

It was awesome!

We only stayed for an hour, for one scene, which they filmed four or five times.

Annette Bening was there, along with Eva Mendes, Ana Gasteyer, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Debra Messing. They did great!

Very casual set - and kind of low-key. The director (Diane English) was pretty subdued, and didn't spend a lot of time giving orders, etc.

The scene was kind of funny. Eva Mendes was confronted by friends of "Mary" - by Annette Bening and Debra Messing. Best line was by Ana Gasteyer, trying to help socialite-in-training Eva Mendes: "The stove??!!! That's the white boxy thing with fire coming out of it!"

Ha ha.
