Bank angst

You know all those commercials Bank of America runs with the guy in the research center who spends his entire life trying to shave like five seconds off the amount of time you have to spend at an ATM? I wonder how he's holding up under the news that 40,000 former Fleet customers won't be able to use their ATM cards for up to FIVE WEEKS this summer. He must feel terrible. He might be depressed. He might even be considering suicide.

Don't do it, Mr. Bank of America ATM Research Man!

Spatch says:

Maybe if he calls the Bank Samaritan line, he'll be able to talk to one of those super-nice Citizens employees who are always doing good deeds in the commercials.

Bring Back Fleet Cash

By stevegarfield | Thu, 05/19/2005 - 6:48am

Dear Bank of America,
You say you want to make things faster. A Fleet Cash transaction that used to take ONE KEYSTROKE now takes multiple keystrokes and 10 times the amount of time!

Details Here.

You've got computers over there, why not use them to ADD features rather than remove them.

And while you are at it please bring back Stamps!
Thanks,
--Steve

Stamps

Wainwright Bank ATMs still sell stamps, but only to their own customers.

Something else is sinister about that ad

I always think the guy looks like a young John Ashcroft, and then when he talks about having more Bank of America ATMs all over the country, they show a map of the U.S. and each state quickly turns RED! I suspect a vast, right-wing conspiracy.

Misleading

As much contempt as I have for giant corps, I may have more contempt for "trusted news sources" who blow things out of proportion. If you go to BoA's site they say that Fleet customer's won't be able to transfer money online for four days. Nothing about not being able to use ATMs, nothing about 5 weeks waiting.

"Customers in FL, ME, MA, NH, and RI -- your HomeLink/OfficeLink upgrade begins June 16. Beginning June 20, you'll access your Online Banking accounts at www.bankofamerica.com"

"Please note that during your upgrade, HomeLink will be available to view account balances and history, but bill payments and transfers will not be available"

And it's not some scoop, it was on the news last night, and it's publicly viewable in BoA's section on their site about the Fleet merger (featured on the right side of their homepage).

Oh, btw, Herald headline tomorrow: "Sky falling."
