The T was all fouled up this hot afternoon
Even more so than usual, apparently, thanks to systemwide power problems - although the Green Line seemed to be running OK. Jill Kolva reports this memo was sent around Mass. General Hospital shortly after 3 p.m.:
We have just been informed by the MBTA that they are experiencing a power outage across their entire transit system. They are working on resolving this issue. In the meantime, you may experience delays on any of the MBTA transit systems. ...
They're talking about it on B0st0n LiveJournal, including this fun note:
... well, a certain friend of mine just called a little while ago to report that he sat at central for over an hour until finally an mbta person came to say there wouldn't be any trains. and nothing else. so everyone just left. ...

it started before 3pm.
it started before 3pm. Someone in my office left work at 2pm and at 2:35pm was still at Kendall Station.
The MBTA website had no information about the outage at that time.
Buses all screwed up as well
The Outraged Liberal provides the proof - nothing like an un-air-conditioned bus on a nice hot day, eh?
Oh, and, of course, there was an overcrowded, non-A/C car on the Franklin line out of South Station this afternoon.
What if this had been an actual emergency?
Jason had plenty of time to consider that at the Chinatown stop on the Orange Line:
Graft and patronage at work, especially here in Boston:
That's just it......in a nutshell!!--the MBTA doesn't care about its employees or the conditions of the trains, or the positions that its riders are in. They want more and more money for service that's worse and worse. The fact that they're pulling rank and stalling on the Green Line Extension is typical of them. What are they waiting for, a full-blown crisis?? It sure sounds like it.
MBTA
Why would Mass General be informed of a power outage on the MBTA? Is that because all the hospitals are informed of a potential emergency?
Or ...
They have lots of employees who use the T to get to and from work.
Yep...
...And MGH seems to care about their employees. They often put out helpful announcements of traffic backups, T breakdowns and other hazards of daily life in Boston.
My question is why there was never an announcement of the outage on the MBTA site. You know, the site of which they write,
Yeah. Right.
"power failures" on the Red Line
The complete breakdown on the Red Line inbound to downtown which occurred last Friday (9/7) was the third I've experienced this summer. This also happened the Tuesday afternoon before 4th of July and the Friday afternoon before Labor Day, a little infuriating as you can imagine. On July 3rd people completely gave up waiting and a mob of us walked from Central to Kendall and over the bridge to Charles where eventually we got to pack like sardines into Red Line cars even more crowded than the usual.
All these stories need to go to the Governor's office every time they happen, or as much as we have the energy for, so the Commonwealth is aware that efforts to reduce gridlock, air pollution etc are being stymied by this incompetent public "transportation" system. This system is getting WORSE and will force people who have to show up at their jobs, daycare centers, etc ON TIME into cars, at this rate.
Green & furious.
