... The Pats have been punished for their current rule-breaking and we need to leave it at that. You can't retroactively punish someone for all that they've allegedly done wrong in the past just to prove a point. The end. Let's move on. This means you too, LaDanian. Though for our sakes, I hope you're moving on into a brick wall of Vrabel, Bruschi and Thomas. And also? Shut up. ...
I am not a sports fan, but I have always been puzzled as to why fines are levied for infractions. I mean, with all the money people in pro athletics have, how could a fine of almost any size have any real effect? Why not punish them in ways that would really hurt? Like suspension for the rest of the seaons, lifetime suspension, and things like that.
why didn't the NFL require forfeiting the victory against the Jets? Obviously, as a Pats fan, I would not like to see this, but it would be far more effective than a fine.
The effects of a forfeit would not be isolated to the two teams in question. To change the outcome of one game affects a number of standings, not just the Pats and the Jets. If a forced forfeit resulted in one team making the playoffs and another not, it wouldn't be pretty or fair.
