Good cop/bad cop at the city firing range

FoxInDetox went down to Moon Island for a marksman's test at the Boston Police firing range the other day. Sounds like one cop down there might do with some anger-management classes:

... Officer Friendly: "Hey there young lady, are you the one who called?"

Me: "Yes. Apparently that doesn't matter now. I'm two minutes late."

Officer Friendly yells out: "Bill, we haven't started the exam yet, I can take her."

Surly Officer: "That's not the point. She's late and late is not allowed. You know the rules."

Officer Friendly: "Bill, you know what traffic is like getting out here from town. She called to let us know she was on her way...besides it's only 2 minutes."

Surly Officer: "Oh, so that makes it ok? You know you were supposed to be here at 4pm, so you're supposed to be here at 4pm no matter what. Not 4:02 pm. Not 4pm and 30 seconds. What part of 'be here on time' is so hard to understand?" ...

The last time I ran into an officious overgrown juvenile bastard like this with the "my watch has blah" bullshit, I asked him one question:

Are you synchronizing with Coordinated Universal Time or International Atomic Time? Is that device calibrated by the

Always fun to stall out jerks like this with their misplaced, self-contained precision by pointing out their lack of objective measurment of the "official" time used by the US Navy and National Institute of Standards.

In other words, 4pm according to WHAT? Radio and TV times are very accurate because they sync to NIST time. I the radio said it was 3:58, it was probably right and Mr. Pig was wrong. Globally wrong.

Unless he had a device - like some clocks - that was calibrated to the signals, he had no place saying that 2 minutes difference was late.

Of course, officious pigs have VERY rarely heard of calibrated clocks and watches, and that ignorance adds to the fun (particularly since they are not hardly esoteric - many military people understand them).

if they said be there at 4 and you are trying to get a job maybe you should be there at 3:30(thats what my gramps always taught me).i bet if you had been a guy there would have been no officer friendly to help you out of your jam. what was the deal here? if you missed test are you SOL for the job?

It's always before 4pm somewhere ...

If you are going to be a precision ninny, you better have calibrated your instrument to an external standard. Otherwise, this "my watch versus yours" thing is every bit as juvenile as the idea that two minutes really mattered in this given context.

Maybe mommy just hadn't changed his diaper recently? That's why he was cranky? Certainly sounds grade school at best to me.

I bet there would have been no problem - unless she wasn't white. As a ballbusting tomboy I'll tell you - I've met his type before and they run totally scared of any woman who isn't properly girly and submissive. They will try anything they can get away with and then some to throw obstacles in the path of anyone they deem subhuman.

Just call it barely legal harassment.

unless she wasn't white? that is a totally insane thing to say, even for someone as nonsensical as you. it was odd enough to infer sexism into her comments, but for you to make this racial is crazy. so because he is a cop, he is automatically a racist sexist asshole? over half the cops assigned to the range are minorities. how do you know he was white? you are crazy.

I'd be more willing to accept your categorization of me as "nonsensical" IF you could, um, demonstrate the capitalization and punctuation skills necessary to make it possible to properly parse your sentence structures?

who cares? in this blogging time in which we live cant we just type and send without all the 3rd graders worries? i cant stand people who feel superior because they know where to put a hyphen or semicolon.this is a place for ideas and opinions not "second grade english class"

Why? Because the panda always eats, shoots, and leaves.

It's not a matter of 'feeling superior.' It's a matter of expressing yourself clearly. If you don't think your opinions are important enough to bother expressing them clearly, others will tend to agree.

If you want to make yourself look stupid by writing poorly, that's your choice. Getting all defensive about it only makes you look dumber. Was third grade really that traumatic for you?

Have you always been an asshole?

Maybe I will start feeling superior.

Things that aren't going to help you win a debate:

1) Getting defensive when someone comments on your lack of literacy skills
2) Pulling out sock puppet accounts
3) Abandoning the argument completely and resorting to calling the guy an asshole

All of which seem to be hobbies of yours. Hmmm...

Eeka
I guess your job is to comment on what everyone else posts?it seems to be the case. the "sock puppet account" was the result of not being able to log in under my usual posting name. I guess I shouldn't worry about people like you.you're right.

i just checked back in after my post regarding swirlygrls racism comments. other than my lack of capitalization, there were no glaring spelling or grammatical errors. i tend not to capitalize when writing emails or responding to comments on blogs (i have no idea why). i find it funny that you chose to attack my writing style, and did not respond to my comments. please tell me where you can point to a racist attitude on the part of the the range officer.

That bloated, overpaid disgrace of a badge is an equal opportunity fascist. He doesn't give a crap about the race, gender, creed, sexual orientation of the applicant. He sees all of us as threats to his monopoly on the dispensation of deadly force. The thought of power being transferred from the ruling elite down to the common class just burns his ass.

Cops are part of the ruling elite now?

And here I thought it was a blue-collar job.

If they were just blue collar working stiffs like the rest of us, one of them wouldn't have been spared prison for shooting a cop in West Roxbury while drunk and beligerent.

If they were just blue collar stiffs, they wouldn't have the state's political power structure protecting their overtime extortion racket.

Cops are "special". Always have been, always will be.

The rest of us are lower life forms in their eyes (OK, with a few exceptions among the decent cops actually out there pounding the pavement and making a difference, while respecting the "civilian" population).

It's a fact of life.

I had my range test there in May of '05. There were three of us taking the test that afternoon, and we were all on time (a bit early even, because we all had heard stories of total dickhead cops at the range who loved nothing more than busting the balls of citizens who dared take the steps necessary to provide for their own defense.

Well...

One of the guys there had parked on the wrong side of the street, and this cop laid into him as if he had just discharged a .38 round into the side of the cop's car. I had never seen a police officer act like such an arrogant asshole - just a pathetic power-hungry little tyrant, whose balls have likely all shriveled up on them from the steroids they smoke for breakfast.

It's like they get paid bonuses for every license applicant they belittle. If they intimidate someone into flunking the test, they probably get a week in Tahiti for their good work.
