Massholes know it's always somebody else's fault

Heading south on Washington Street just before the West Roxbury Parkway this morning, I heard the squeal of a vehicle coming to a very sudden stop on wet pavement. I looked over at the other side and saw: One car, stopped because the driver was trying to make a left turn, with several other stopped vehicles behind it - at the end of which was an SUV with a guy on a cell phone, the one who had just come to a sudden stop. Apparently, he managed to look up from his fascinating phone discussion to realize, whoa, there were several stopped cars in front of him and he better do something. Naturally, he did what any proper Masshole would: After he squealed to a stop, he leaned on his horn.

As someone who grew up here, lives here and drives here, I am not immune to how awful the driving can be, but the Masshole stuff is a little tired at this point Adam. Just sayin!

yea, for real

Yes, every single post on this site is a complaint.

Well, OK, maybe not this one. Or this one. Or this. Or this. Or this. Or this. Or this. Or this. Or, well, this is getting boring.

Massholes

As someone who also grew up here I think the Masshole thing is all relative. Its true, people need to calm down and stop driving like they're in a competition with other drivers to get somewhere - breaking news: no one is going anywhere fast in Boston so calm down. On the other hand, having lived in other places, including the genteel South, I have to say that Mass. drivers are a great deal more considerate, and at least predictable, than people elsewhere. Consider this, anyone who walks anywhere in Mass. can probably remember a time recently when a car stoped for them in a cross walk, or when they saw a car stop for someone else in a crosswalk. By contrast, in other places I have lived, I have routinely seen cars race elderly pedestrians to crosswalks to cut them off. I have also lived places where deaths from roadrage (i.e. gunfights) were a weekly occurrance. So people here may not be as kind as, say, the folks in Maine, but not everyone is a Masshole.

It depends where one goes.

For example, I still recall driving down to NYC from Boston some months ago, and noticing that, although New Yorkers are often aggressive and rude, they've also got a somewhat considerate streak in them also. For example, when I needed to get over into the far-right lane of the Cross-Bronx Expwy to get off at my necessary NYC exit, when the person moving along in the lane I needed to be in saw me signaling right to go into that lane, this New Yorker immediately allowed me into the lane. It was reasonably trafficky as I got near NYC, but yet someone managed to have enough decency and courtesy to let me go into the necessary lane to get off at my exit.

On the other hand, I've experienced less consideration in some parts of the Bay State and New England, generally.

That guy sounds like a typical jerk.
