Plotting a hatch or hatching a plot?
I love that close-up photo of one of the takeover army. Amazing!
My son called me when he got home from school yesterday:
"Mom! I had to go in the front door - ladybugs EVERYWHERE! They've swarmed the shed and the slider and the pantry ... it's crazy!"
They were on my building
They were on my building too. Its begun.
looks up, not out
thanks for posting this - I'm always thrilled to see my photos on universalhub! A slight correction on the caption, though: I took both photos while standing outside the building, aiming nearly straight up. I was trying to show how the ladybugs swarmed all the way to the top (15th) floor, and perhaps i was unclear in my own caption. Not a big deal...no reason to change the caption.
I heard on the local news last night that ladybugs are attracted to reflective or white surfaces, which must explain why they flock to William James Hall every year. Anyone know why they suddenly appear around now? I recall a similar onslaught last year, around this same time.
They're looking for a place to hibernate
So maybe they'll all come out just in time to gang up on those gross little winter-moth caterpillars in the spring (a guy can hope).
Wow!
I would have thought it's a bit too late in the year for ladybugs, but nonetheless that's a really cool shot and a fascinating phenomenon :)

I'll take 1,000 ladybugs in
I'll take 1,000 ladybugs in my apartment over one bedbug any day.
