Adam Reilly notes the dramatically different accounts of a truly important story in today's editions of the Globe and Herald: Who kept the World Series trophy from smashing into a million tiny pieces when Tom Menino tripped while holding it yesterday?

Why are there no photos or
Why are there no photos or video of this anywhere?
Maybe it didn't need saving
I'm going to go out on a limb and hypothesize that the trophy is sturdy enough that it could have survived the fall unscathed. At least it should be. The Stanley Cup always looks shiny and new despite the abuse it gets from those burly hockey players. The World Series trophy should be just as strong.
It was made by Tiffany's.
I think the little silver flagpoles would get all bent up if Mumbles landed on it. Perhaps it has an extra-strong little blue box.
Is this trophy something the Sox get to keep
or do they have to hand it off to next year's winning team (assuming they don't repeat)?
They keep it
I saw this part of the rally on NESN. Menino was onstage w/ John Henry & Tom Werner, they had both the '04 & '07 trophies "together for the first time". I'm pretty sure the mayor was actually holding the '04 trophy. They went to commercial before Mumbles stumbled (!) so I don't know how it all went down.
I saw that same video live
I saw that same video live but later on last night I saw the rest of it and they showed Menino walk off with the trophy. You see him stumble on a step but no one really even notices. No one even takes the trophy from him. he just kept walking with it. I kept watching to see if maybe he fell a second time because it just didnt look like he was hurt or anything.
I just wonder why he was in that photo shoot with Henry, Werner, and Lucchino? Where was Tito? Theo? What did the mayor do to win us that trophy?
