Man shot in head over $60

Update: He died.

The owner of Stalex Pizza on Norfolk Street in Dorchester was shot in the head around 9:30 this morning when he tried to chase a punk who'd just held up the restaurant, Boston Police report.

The victim was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where his survival is still not certain, officials say.

Gary Johnson, 18, of Dorchester, was arrested on a variety of charges soon after the attack. Police say:

According to investigators, the suspect entered Stalex Pizza and committed an armed robbery. The suspect fled after stealing $60.00. The victim, who was working at the restaurant at the time of the incident, chased the suspect out of the establishment. At that time, the suspect fired several shots striking and critically wounding the victim.

Two officers on routine patrol saw the victim lying in the street and then a man running toward Woodrow Avenue. As they tended to the victim, two other officers began looking for Johnson and found him in a backyard on Wooodrow Avenue, police report.

Johnson will be arraigned tomorrow in Dorchester District Court.

It's so sad that the pizza guy didn't have a shotgun.
