Singles pile up in Roslindale shop

Tom Nealon at Pazzo Books notices an unusual phenomenon:

The last few weeks people have been paying with huge numbers of singles - 20-30 at a time. Not to read too much into it, but it seems to show a real tentativeness about the future, a lack of any firm feeling about where we are in the world.

Or, maybe, it shows a willingness to move forward - clean house and purge those one dollar bills that are cluttering up our lives. ...

I used to have tons of singles back when I was a waitress and bartender. I sometimes paid my rent in singles and fives.
