South End: Particularly vicious mugging; particularly vicious pit bull

Boston Police report on two incidents in the South End:

Around 8:30 p.m. yesterday, a man walking near Tremont and Kendall streets was attacked by two black men in hoodies:

The victim also stated the two suspects ripped his chain from his neck and stabbed him several times in the neck and back area. The victim was able to retrieve his chain and hailed a cab to the hospital.

Shortly after midnight today, police report arriving at 59 Wareham St. to find two men and a dog bitten by a pit bull. When the pit bull came after a patrolman, he pulled out his revolver and shot the beast dead. One of the men was taken to Boston Medical Center; expected to survive. The other was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No word on the condition of the bitten dog.

I'm not going to go into a whole big schpiel about the pitbull attack, because pretty much everybody on here knows how I feel about these particular dogs.
However, I'll say this: If somebody wants to own a dog like that s/he should at least have the common decency and courtesy of keeping that pitbull muzzled when they go out in public, so that the public won't be endanbered by the dog. There are enough problems around without these dogs running around free.
