Mike FM: If it only had a brain

TC reports he was listening to Mike FM yesterday when a station promo promoting the fact the station never plays anything offensive segued into Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side:"

... Now, let me make this absolutely clear: "Walk on the Wild Side" is a great freakin' song. But did nobody see the irony in going from "nothing offensive" to playing a song with a reference to oral sex in the second verse?

And, you know what kids can be like. Kids listen, kids ask questions, kids retain things without you realizing it and then spout them back at inopportune times. Do I really want my two year old suddenly singing "...even when she was giving head"? ...

May I suggest WJIB radio?

Seriously. It's at 740 on the AM dial, and plays quite pleasant music from the 1940s onward to the present day. I don't think they have a web site, or I'd link to it, but they do have a Yelp page and a Wikipedia entry.

What's so offensive about giving head?

I don't see any problem. Oral sex is just like a handshake these days, isn't it?

That's just one brief line in the song

I'd be more worried about my child familiarizing herself with anachronistic racial terminology.

Just be glad he didn't play "Street Hassle" or "Like A Possum" (the latter being a song that got some strange, strange looks when I discovered, and subsequently played it on the jukebox at a pizza place in Memphis, TN some years back)
