Auto-glass firms picking up a lot of business in Hancock Village in Brookline

Brookline Police report that five cars have had their windows smashed on Gerry Road in recent days.

The whole Hancock Village area seems to have become one giant buffet for smash-and-grabbers looking for GPSes, purses and other fun stuff - no doubt the VFW Parkway makes getaways easy (at least now that the MWRA sewer project is finished there). See the bottom of this map, which is something I started working on when I noticed all the smash-and-grab reports on the Brookline Police Blog (still not sure if I'll keep it as just a smash-and-grab site or start mapping all the crimes reported on their site).

Well, then it's time for a recommendation

Remember that your insurance company (I think in all cases, required by MA law) will replace the windshields w/no deductible.)

I used Don at the Village Glassmith in Wellesley a few years back, and was very happy. He came out right on schedule, did the whole thing in an hour or so, and gave great advice on how to let the adhesive settle (especially important now that it's cold out). Really nice guy, and he recognized me when he was doing some work for the Audi dealership a year later.

There are an awful lot of franchise glass firms out there, and it's easy to do a crummy job that you can't see - but that either risks the stability of your windshield or, at least, lets a lot of air and noise in through the seal. Turned out my "original" glass wasn't original either; the previous owner had replaced it, and poorly, which is why my car seemed so noisy.

Your insurance isn't paying for it, so there's no real point in them competing on price - yet they don't particularly seem to compete on quality. I found out about Don through the Audiworld forums; wherever you go, get recommendations first.
