Congress Street bridge death on pedestrians
Fabulously Out There wishes to know which frickin' agency is responsible for taking care of, or rather, not taking care of, the sidewalks on the Congress Street bridge:
... And so I skipped along to the beat of my ipod, made it through Eastie without falling on said ass, got to my T-stop downtown, got off, no problems, all dry and clear and then came the Congress Street bridge.......and it's entirely possibly that yours truly wiped out on the bridge.
I am not even kidding. WIPED OUT. ...

And the Longfellow Bridge.
After the first day of shuffling across the ice, I've since opted for taking the Red Line from Charles to Kendall. I'd rather walk over the bridge, but I'd also like to not wipe out. Strangely, the steps leading up to the bridge on the Cambridge side of things have no ice...which leads me to believe that Cambridge is responsible for those steps, but the city or commonwealth is responsible for the rest of the bridge. At any rate, it would be cool if whoever is responsible for the ice on the bridge would take the steps to make it more hospitable for pedestrians.
Easier to Bike
Not that I have been in the cold, but I have found it easier to bike around plowed and de-iced streets than to try to walk any distance in and around my home or in Boston.
When people think I'm crazy, I point out the trade off between navigating half a mile of pack ice in a city that chooses not to go after shoveling scofflaws, or cycling on cleared roads.
It is a sad commentary on priorities.
