Woman sentenced for slashing baby with eyebrow trimmer, then getting man arrested for the attack

Mabel Rojas, 20, of Roslindale, pleaded guilty today to charges she slashed another woman's baby with the razor in Dorchester on July 10 - and then lied to police, who arrested somebody else for the crime, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Rojas was indicted after a grand jury exonerated Andrew Vaughn, wrongly accused in the attack. Suffolk Superior Court Judge Carol Ball sentenced Rojas to 4 to 5 years in prison and 10 years of probation upon her release; prosecutors had asked for 8 to 10 years in prison.

Prosecutors charged Rojas walked into a room where the baby was sleeping and slashed her:

It was after this incident that Vaughn, who went into the room to change his clothes, observed the baby crying and bleeding from her neck. Vaughn took her out of the room and handed her to her mother.

One of the guests called 911. When police officers arrived, all of the guests, including Rojas, implicated Vaughn, and officers placed him under arrest. He was held in custody until an August 22 Suffolk Superior Court hearing when the exhaustive investigation led by Suffolk prosecutors and Boston Police uncovered evidence that consistently pointed away from Vaughn and toward Rojas.
