Globe misses local angle on story, doggonit

Sheesh! You'd think the paper that tells us all about an impending local dog-rental joint would try to get the local angle on another doggie craze sweeping the country: Dogwashes.

But no. The Globe business section runs this AP story about places to bring your dog to get washed without mentioning a single outlet in the Boston area. Instead, we get to read about places in Portland, Portsmouth, Austin and (my favorite) Yelm, Washington (Yes, Yelm, the Pride of the Prairie, and, no, I didn't know the prairie extended to Washington, either).

So to help out the ink-stained wretches at the Globe business desk, here are a couple of local dogwasheries that I'm sure would love to comment on this fluffy issue: Pet Cabaret in Roslindale and the Clean Machine in Framingham, which used to just offer car washes, but which now also can clean your pooch (on the same conveyor line?).

Laundromutt! Laundromutt, Laundromutt, Laundromutt. (It's over by Fresh Pond in Cambridge.)

Barking up the wrong tree

On the plus side, the Globe today breathlessly informs us that you can now buy sorta fresh bread trucked in from Maine in Davis Square. Because Lord knows there aren't any places in the entire Boston area where you can buy fresh bread.

When Pigs Fly bread

is actually worth the hype, though. -- A satisfied local customer

Nothing against the bread

Which I haven't tried (and heck, I used to be thrilled when Framingham had a bagel place that trucked in REAL meat knishes from Oceanside, LI, so I know from trucked-in stuff). But, man, could the Globe writer have been any more kiss-uppish about the stuff - even granted that it was in the food section?

I like Flying Pigs

but I think that Iggy's is better. And the
actually bake it in Cambridge.

I didn't know Maine bread had so much cachet

I guess my ignorance stems from the fact I'm not one of the many bored millionaires considering a second-career as a cheese-maker, that the Globe considers to be its core audience these days.

I'll stick with the concentrated awesome of The Blue Frog Bakery, and leave the exclusive, prestigious trucked-in bread to the confused elites.

Lyndell's Bakery

Mmmmm, honeycomb bread, mmmmmm.

With 120 Years in Ball Sq., Somerville, they can't be doing too much wrong.

Leominster Has One!

We have a dog washing place on route 117 in Leominstah, right next to the new location of Pastaland (homemade raviolis...mmmmm).

The big loss around here is Roma bakery, where EVERYONE went for Italian bread. I believe they got kicked from their space because of Hannaford wanting to expand, but I heard that secondhand, so don't quote me.

But you reminded me, my dog needs a bath.
