Police describe Southie parking entitlement run amok

Boston Police report a South Boston resident just wouldn't take no for an answer when they wouldn't let her and a companion drive down a street blocked off due to that seven-alarm fire on Emerson Street. Police say officers first came upon the woman moving a barrier blocking a street near the fire scene around 3 a.m., Tuesday; when they told her why the street was blocked, she started yelling at them:

... Specifically, the woman told the officers that, because she paid taxes, she could move any barrier she wanted. When officers again told the suspect that the street was closed, the woman exited the motor vehicle that she was a passenger in. As she was walking away from the scene, she again began yelling at the officers. Specifically, she told the officers that she would be coming back, and, when she returned, she'd move the barriers again. Approximately 15 minutes later, the female returned with her dog. As promised, the woman walked over to the barriers and knocked them over. When officers approached her, she began swearing at them. ...

Karen Bartolomei, 36, of South Boston was then charged with being a disorderly person.

Ms. Bartolomei owns an exclusive wedding invitation business in South Boston. To be fair, all the bridezillas in such a business arena could make anyone grouchy.

why she thinks that her fecal matter is lacking in malodorous effluvia.

It doesn't excuse her entitled diva behavior in any way, shape, or form. The real world still exists, must be dealt with on a daily basis, and really doesn't give a crap how important she or her clients think they are.

according to the BPDNews account. No further explanation is probably needed.

Keeping it Classy in Southie!

Ya that's her, she is currently crafting oh so pricey invites to her arraignment!

I know it probably makes me a bad person for not being filled with Righteous Outrage over this, but I think it's hysterical. How drunk do you have to be to think it's a good idea to walk your dog past a burned out building at 3am while fighting with the cops? Truly, that is a special level of intoxication.

Southie Drunk.Hell hath no fury like a Southie girl full of wine coolers.

Seriously. It's great free entertainment. (I guess living in Southie may be why I'm not in a frothing rage--cranky drunks barely even register with me anymore.)

No excuse for it, no matter what somebody's walk of life is, or where they're coming from.
The woman should realize that the cops obviously had that particular street barricaded and closed to vehicular traffic for a reason. Where is this person's head at?

Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

That makes a rather nasty cocktail, and it wouldn't make her that allegedly drunk.

At least she wasn't driving.

A regular on Soxaholix was losing everything except her dog and her purse.

The dog is clearly wicked important,no question. The purse is really a key item too. My SIL regrets to this day that she didn't grab her purse on the way out the door when her house exploded.

Not that she didn't have her priorities straight - a cat in one arm, baby in the other - she just regrets not snapping it up as she passed by it on her way out the door.

It was very difficult in 1986 to replace all the credit cards, her driver's license, etc. She had to get her mother to sign a notarized affadavit for her age and have two friends sign forms and get them notarized so she could restore her official identity. All this takes a fair amount of money and ridiculous amounts of time, too. I'd bet it is far more difficult 20 years hence, given the level of security now required for passports, licenses, and the like.

If that's her on the web page linked above, I expect that she's no Southie girl. Don't blame Southie for this one.

Lived in Southie for years. None of this surprises me. The "long-time residents" of South Boston (a/k/a the drunks with anger management problems, IQ's around 50, the vocabulary of and ape and a mouth that would embarrass truck driver) truly believe their little enclave is it's own country governed by Whitey's Law. I refer to it as the U.S.S.R.S.B.

I used to deny it, and find quirky solace in the Quiet Man Pub and curmudgeoness, but too many encounters like this have changed me.

What that neighborhood needs is more overpriced condos dwelling, Puggle-walking, Bistro eating, Harvard masters degree holding Yuppies.

We'll see what the townies are feeling entitled to when they are living in Quincy in 5 years.

I will bet my paycheck she is a transplant/yuppie whatever. She is definetely not from Southie originally. She runs some sort of wine business and meets with cilents in Manhattan. Sounds like entitled yuppie to me.

I'm just curious as to where it says anything about parking? I understand if you are just trying to make a joke about the parking issues in Southie, but I don't know if it is fair to perpetuate that in a situation that actually seems to have nothing to do with parking.
