Oh, fudge: Toscanini's shut for non-payment of taxes
By adamg - Thu, 01/17/2008 - 2:27pm.
Bostonist has the scoop on the Central Square landmark; looks like the owner's had a rocky road of late and now the only way you'll get any ice cream there is to jimmy open the lock slapped on the door by state revenooers (yes, I will stop now). Complete with dramatic photo.

looks like customers
and workers have been frozen out....
Oreo doomed? We must react
Oreo doomed? We must react as caramelly as we can - it's not a sherbet yet. Take a pecan the bright side: I tried Berry Line fro-yo in Harvard Square the other day, and it was pretty rad. Not ice cream, but all the fresh fruit does wonders for the winter blues. It's pricey though (like $4.50 or something).

Cambridge Chronicle: Tosci's owes state $167,000 in unpaid taxes
Read all about it. That's going to take more than a Wiffiti board campaign to fix.
We can only hope ...
that one of those nerdy undergraduates or starving graduate students from MIT that ate there years ago and hit it big in tech will white knight the place out of hock.
Gotta wonder what the hell has been going on with Gus these days - first the Someday went down, then the bakery on Beacon St. Somerville ...
Gus says he'll be re-opening soon
Or at least, that's what he tells Boston Magazine.
Huh?
That idea couldn't possibly be as un-useful as it sounds. The Wifiti board (just like the lights and everything else except the deep freezers) is shut off, and there's nobody in there. So how exactly I don't understand is posting to the turned-off nobody-looking-at-it Wifiti screen going to help anybody except maybe the Wifiti people?
I don't understand why...
...some people's comments put blame on the state in this one. He's the one who didn't pay his taxes, any responsible business owner should know the consequences of not paying their taxes and that there are many opportunities to remedy the matter before it comes to seizure, which is a last resort measure. It's the rest of us who have to pick up the tab for those who don't pay their taxes. That said, I really hope they can overcome this, I love their ice cream.
Gus Rancantore: Still trying to get it together
Boston Magazine posts an update from the store's owner about his tax issues and how it'll be Tuesday at the earliest before he can re-open and how grateful he is for everybody's support.
