Newton to consider requiring residents to shovel their sidewalks

Currently, the city only bans dumping new snow on sidewalks; Aldermen to hold hearing Feb. 6 on proposed local regulation.

let's have the City of Newton itself clean up the sidewalks that are on municipal property -- like the ones leading to the T stations, surrounding the public parking lots, and at crosswalks. Those, in my opinion, are the most hazardous after a storm and are left uncleared for a long time. I have been forced many times to walk dangerously in the street, facing opposing traffic on a snow-narrowed and slick road, because the City has not done its part.

Nor do they help people with mobility impairments, or prevent people walking around huge snow piles generated from driveway plows from being hit by cars.

It isn't about drama, it is about maintenance of the public ways.

Lets hope you never have to get to work on crutches after a snowstorm, although you might find that educational ... oh yeah, yo mama would drive you around if you whined just right!

Make sure you put a cone or beach chair out to save a spot. I know, it's Newton, most folks have driveways.
