Menino tries end run around CVS's planned urgi-care clinics

UPDATE: Sometimes people are too quick to see conspiracies where none exist. Like me. Paul Levy explains in a note below that he wasn't at the meeting because of a simple scheduling conflict.

Tom Menino gathered some high-powered healthcare muckymucks at a Parkman House conclave yesterday to try to get them to come up with ways to reduce wait times for primary care.

Noticeably absent: MGH's CEO (although MGH partner Brigham and Women's had its CEO there), and Paul Levy, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Levy supports the idea of in-store clinics, while Hizzonah wishes to kill them dead.

Via Kevin, MD, who doesn't hold out much hope for the "academia" invited by Menino to actually come up with a cure.

Please don't give the wrong impression,

I couldn't attend because of a conflicting appointment, but we had a representative there and look forward to working with the Mayor on the issue of expanding the availability of primary care in the City and beyond.
