The windchill had gotten to around -15F to -20F this morning around 5AM. It's gotten progressively warmer over the course of the day and I think the wind is supposed to taper off around evening commute time.
Like our back porch up in what I guess used to be called the Clarendon Hills of Roslindale, but which we now proudly refer to as "the prestigious golf-course area."
That the local paper of record dropped
Vermont Cheese Makers and Natick Collection
condos in favor of a real up and coming
trend that all Boston is abuzz about: hookah bars.
New Yorkers drop their Rs and add them in funny places, too.
However, I believe my grandfather imported New England Rs by the gross - he was one of those Brooklynites who actually called the stuff you might heat your home with "erl" (so, yes, there was truth in the old Hoyt Hurt/Hurt Hoit Brooklyn Daily Eagle joke).

Despite the article's repeated use of the phrase, wind chill isn't measured. It's calculated.
Celsius, maybe?
-20 C is -4 F. Did it get that cold?

It only got down to 12 F in Jamaica Plain
12 degrees is still pretty chilly, but it's not -4. The Globe article was referring to wind chill. The headline was dramatic, but misleading.
It was 10 in the higher elevations

Sheesh...
I also love ..
That it took two people to compile a list of three hookah bars (shouldn't that be "hookah bahs"?).
Maybe someone there actually DOES have a sense of humor!
The second byline is italicized in the online version:
"Additional reporting by Krisi Healy."
Reporting indeed!
Respect the migration of alveolar approximants
That oughter be "hooker bahs."
Really?
I thought that rule only applied when the ending ah or eh was followed by a vowel, for example:
Migration
As in, from one place to another. As in, Rent a cah in Aruber.
I just experimented on
I just experimented on myself. It comes out hooka bahs.
Drat
I'll have to go back to the drawing board to revise my Theory of the Conservation of Alveolar Approximants in Nominally Non-Rhotic Accents...
Unless a large store of Rs is discovered somewhere in Boston, all my long years of postulating may be wasted.

Check New York. Then may be using those Rs in Warshington D.C. and the like.
