That explains why I wasn't

That explains why I wasn't allowed to go through the tunnel from Park St. to Downtown Crossing last night and had to take the Green Line to Haymarket. It doesn't explain why there were lots of people in Downtown Crossing boarding the train when my Orange Line train finally got there.

"The biggest problem wasn't so much the fire. The problem was the smoke that it generated,"

Thanks Captain Obvious!

that explains the alarms

I got off the Red Line shortly after 9, and all the fire alarms in Downtown Crossing were going off -- but nobody seemed to care, other than plugging their ears.

Thought I smelled some smoke.

Nope.

That was mesothelioma you were smelling.

A few weeks ago, I was in Downtown Crossing with all the alarms going...nobody was concerned then either, and I heard a vendor tell someone they'd been going off for a couple hours.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of an alarm?

People Are Amazing

I was eating dinner at Quincy Market once when the alarm went off - luckily it was nice out, so I just took my food outside and marveled at the fact that, not only was nobody leaving while it was blaring, but people were still going in. Even if you don't think the place is actively on fire, isn't that horrible noise enough to keep you away?
